I am not sure how many books I have reread, but perhaps it is fewer than the average person.     1     The source material, though, is of course not.

I used to take the same approach to books as I did to travel: don't go to the same place twice.Life is too short.    2    Then I realized that the fact that life is short might work the other way around, too: if you know you enjoy something,or somewhere, then why not return?

Recently I reread Joseph Heller's Catch-22.I was inspired to do so when reminded of how he'd respond when people rudely asked him why he'd never written anything as good:"Who has?"Catch-22 pretty much saved my life when I first read it.    3    I had dropped out of school twice, didn't leave the house at all and didn't have a life.It felt as though I hadn't laughed in such a long time.

4    It managed to take me out of the dark world, and though its themes are,of course, serious, its cleverness cheered me greatly.I related to its characters who are themselves trapped.I am now planning to reread the sort of books that inspired me in my own writing.

I won't take a break altogether from reading the most recent releases.I love the smell of new books fresh from the printers.    5

A.Catch-22 had me laughing.
B.My favourites are secondhand editions.
C.There is discomfort in reading recently-released books.
D.At that time I was an extremely depressed 17-year-old.
E.For me, the pleasure of rereading is a newly discovered one.
F.There is so much to read and so much to see and experience.
G.However,I have determined to dip more frequently into the old ones

Emotional Intelligence

In this book, the psychologist and writer, Daniel Goleman, explores the nature of emotional intelligence and how it affects every aspect of human life. You'll learn how emotional intelligence gradually develops and how it can be increased.

Flow

What's the key to experiencing more enjoyment in your life? It's flow. When you're involved in an activity or a subject that makes you neither anxious nor bored because it's too easy, you slide into a flow state that keeps you controlled but creative, focused but free.

How to Stop Worrying and Start Living

Refuse the worry in your life so you can do and be better. Carnegie explains clearly why worrying is so awful for you and offers tools that you can use to cut it out. In typical Dale style, there are also plenty of stories to support his recommendations, including those from Carnegie himself. Until he did a little digging for the secrets to living better, he considered himself to be "one of the unhappiest persons in New York" due to too much worry. This book is the show of long, hard efforts to quitting if for good.

【推荐2】How to Remember What You Read

How often have you read a book from start to finish, only to discover that you haven’t remembered very much of the information it contains? This can happen when you read whatever type of book.     1     You can remember the important content of a book by following some simple methods.

Take note.     2     This act of writing will help you remember the information better. You can also write down ideas that come to mind as you read. This is a form of active reading, which helps you better understand the material instead of just taking it in passively. Active reading will help you absorb and remember the material better.

Highlight important concepts. Try to only highlight important and relevant information. For example, stress just a few key words on a page. Before you stress something, ask yourself, “Does this information satisfy my purpose of reading the material?”     3

Think in pictures. Creating mental pictures for the content you read will help you remember the content better than just reading the content without any mental images. Make mental pictures of important events, concepts or people.     4     If you need to remember the date of a battle, imagine it in your head with the date in capital letters.

5    . After you read something, talk about the new information with a friend , family member or classmate. The act of discussing the content will create new associations in your memory. It will also help you see which information you have understood and remembered, and which you haven’t.

A.If the answer is no, it is best not to stress it.
B.Discuss the material with someone.
C.You can rewrite the material.
D.However, there is still room for improvement.
E.Link new information to something you know.
F.This is an especially helpful approach for visual learners.
G.As you read, write down the relevant information.

【推荐3】Getting Lost in a Good Book Can Help Keep You Healthy

I’m a novelist and it’s obviously in my interest to encourage people to read. But there’s increasing evidence that reading isn’t just for pleasure, or merely a way of improving literacy skills and factual knowledge.     1

Firstly, reading helps to lengthen attention spans in children and improves their ability to think clearly.     2     It is essential to learn this skill as a small child. The more they do it, the better they get at it.

Also, reading can help people learn to empathize(产生共鸣). A recent study at the University of Michigan found that there had been a 48% decrease in empathy among college students.     3     In a computer game, you might have rescued a princess, but you don’t care about her, you just want to win. But a princess in a book has a past, present and future, she has connections and motivations. We can relate to her. We see the world through her eyes.

As a matter of fact, reading is far from a passive activity. Reading exercises the whole brain. When we read and imagine the landscapes, sounds, smells and tastes described on the page, the various areas of the brain that are used to process these experiences in real life are activated, creating new neural pathways.     4     This doesn’t happen when we’re watching TV or playing a computer game.

Getting sucked into a good novel appears to be beneficial to our mental health too.     5     Reading not only avoids feelings of loneliness, it helps us to wind down, de-stress and forget our own problems for a while.

A.Stories have a structure that encourages their brains to think in sequence, to link cause, effect and significance.
B.In other words, our brains model real experiences, just as if we were living them ourselves.
C.When we read a good book, we’re trying to find out its main idea.
D.It might actually be good for our mental and physical health too.
E.But those who did not enjoy these activities had lots of loss.
F.As the old saying goes, “ You’re never alone with a book.”
G.Encouraging reading could overcome this.
