Anyone who has an interest in Dunhuang will have heard of Fan Jinshi. The Chinese archaeologist     1     has spent more than half a century researching and preserving the caves at the heart of the ancient Silk Road in Gansu Province     2    (know) as the “Daughter of Dunhuang” in her field, though “protector” is probably a more fitting     3    (describe).

Fan has been studying the historical site since the early 1960s, first as an archaeology undergraduate from Peking University, then as a conservationist when she became the deputy director of the Dunhuang Research Academy in 1984, which serves to prevent the ancient site     4     being destroyed.

“It is over a thousand years old. It is an old person, an     5    (extreme) weak old person. It has     6    (variety) illnesses. If you are a little careless, it could be gone. Gone forever,” Fan says.

Today, thanks to the work of great     7    (archaeologist) such as Fan, Dunhuang is proud of the world’s largest and best-preserved collection of Buddhist relics     8    (date) from the 13th to the 15th centuries. The main Mogao site is made up of 735 caves spread across     9    1,700-metre-wide cliff face, containing 45,000 square metres of murals(壁画)     10     more than 2,000 colourful sculptures.

Li Ziqi, a vlogger, has over 6 million fans on YouTube,    1    (make) her the second most influential vlogger from China on the international video-sharing platforms.

Li,    2    young woman of the post-1990 generation, she looks elegant with long braids(辫子) in her hair, always wearing delicate traditional    3    (dress). She started shooting short videos in 2016, inspired by the self-sufficient lifestyle of ancient Chinese people. In her videos, she has picked ripe cherries to make jam and    4    (harvest) peaches to make sweet wine.

Most viewers find that the lifestyle and the landscapes    5    (display) in Li's videos help them find inner peace and give them a psychological break from    6    (they) busy urban routine. One comments, “I have respect and    7    (admire) for this woman. Not just from what I see in the videos,    8    the fact that she's bringing back to life an archaic(古色古香的) way of doing things.”

Aside from showing how to cook, Li has even shown other ancient skills, such as dyeing cloth and making furniture. She has impressed her viewers    9    the charm of China's traditional handicrafts and techniques.

“As an    10    (increase) influential vlogger,” she says,“1 hope I can show the world the wonderful cultural heritage of China.”
