WeChat, the Chinese social media smartphone app, saw an increase in user numbers of 41 percent year on year to 500 million at the end of last year, in a sign that parent company Tencent is extending its reach for the mobile Internet. As one of the largest Internet integrated service providers in China and one of the most Internet users in China, Tencent’s profit grew 24 percent to RMB 20.98 billion per year, slightly higher than forecasts, driven mainly by online gaming profits. It is unclear how much WeChat contributed to Tencent’s profits but the app’s growth is a strong indicator of the company’s long-term health as it tries to adjust its business to be more suitable for mobile devices.

“We extended our leadership in games and online media, and made breakthroughs in emerging platforms such as online security and mobile payments.” Ma Huateng, Tencent chairman, said in a statement. WeChat is the second highest ranked social app in China, behind QQ, Tencent’s another chatting app, which claimed to have 815 million registered monthly users at the end of 2014.

Tencent has been unwilling to earn money through WeChat by flooding it with advertising, which could influence the users’ experience. But this is expected to change. Some analysts anticipated(预期) that advertising would be introduced on a large scale later this year. Early attempts to test ads on the service have not always gone smoothly. After a BMW ad was introduced on some users’ feedbacks in January, many users who were not targeted by the brand’s marketing complained of “discrimination” by Tencent’s data mining algorithm(数据挖掘算法). They claimed it unfairly treated them as not wealthy or successful enough to view the BMW ad.

1. What can we learn from the passage?
A.WeChat is ranked behind QQ in China.
B.Tencent wants to earn more through QQ.
C.WeChat contributed most to Tencent’s profits.
D.More advertising would not be introduced later this year.
2. How did some users feel when a BMW ad was introduced?
A.Uninterested.B.Untouched.
C.Unhappy.D.Unlucky.
3. What’s the best title of this passage?
A.WeChat, a Popular APP in China
B.WeChat, a Smartphone APP in China
C.WeChat, a Profitable APP of Tencent
D.WeChat, a Nonprofit APP of Tencent

1】There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that the influence of media is growing stronger and stronger as time passes by. If you have noticed, the speed at which news travels around the world has become faster with the development and advancement in technology. Media are actually influencing people in different ways.

Whether you admit it or not, watching movies and programs on the television or our laptop, ipad and other mobile devices as we relax takes us away into this different kingdom—that is, there are parts in our being that feel we are the ones in the movie and sometimes we even feel what they are feeling as we get caught in the emotional excitement. The effect of media does not stop when the movie or program ends. And this effect might just be the cause of behavioral changes in people.

With action films, children tend to follow the movie hero, leading them to violent (暴力的) acts, thinking that it is acceptable because his hero became successful in the end. There are cartoon programs that show acts of violence and dishonest acts against others. In return, children tend to copy the characters and think that cheating other people is a way to deal with their problems. They learn to transfer these ill behaviors to friends.

There are some television shows and movies that attempt to create an atmosphere to change the view of people towards social issues such as racial discrimination (种族歧视). In the minds of other people, the effect can be for the better, but some unfortunately for the worse.

There had been instances in the past that young people drunk drive copying their favorite actress. There was also a case where somebody set a subway ticket booth on fire because he saw it in his favorite film. These are just a few examples of the disturbing influence of media on people’s behavior.

An explanation to these acts is that these people could not distinguish fantasy from reality. They get caught up in the kingdom of what they had been watching and the images and scenes become deeply rooted in their minds.

So the media is largely responsible for giving people false ideas and unhealthy pictures, which lead to misbehavior against other people, and can create a dangerous cycle among individuals as they attempt to do the same or even worse things to others. The sad reality is that no one is turning off their televisions or disconnecting from these influences. The only way to change is when people no longer buy into it, demand it, and watch it.

B.How media affect people’s behavior.
C.Why we are attracted by movies and programs.
D.Whether people feel being taken away from the reality.
2. Why do some people act badly, according to the author?
A.They are just the violent people.
B.They hope to solve social problems.
C.They actually can’t tell fantasy from reality.
D.They want to change people’s attitudes towards media.
3. What’s the author’s attitude towards media?
A.Puzzled.B.Critical.C.Supportive.D.Cautious.
4. The author supports his ideas mainly by _______.
A.making comparisons and giving examples
B.listing facts and giving research results
C.raising problems and providing solutions
D.showing facts and presenting explanations

【推荐2】One of our most firmly established ideas of masculinity(男子气概)is that men don't cry. Although he might weep bitter tears at a funeral, a real man is expected to quickly regain control. Sobbing openly is for girls. But historical and literary evidence suggests that, in the past, not only did men cry in public, but no one saw it as weak or shameful.    1

In written records of the Middle Ages, we find one ambassador repeatedly bursting into tears when addressing Philip the Good, and the entire audience at a peace conference throwing themselves on the ground, sobbing and weeping as they listen to the speeches. Still more remarkably, there's no mention of the men in these stories trying to hold back or hide their tears. No one pretends to have something in his eye.    2     They cry in a crowded hall with their heads held high.

3    The most obvious possibility is that this shift is the result of changes that took place as we moved from a feudal(封建的),agricultural society to one that was urban and industrial. In the Middle Ages, a typical village had only 50 — 300 inhabitants, most of them related by blood or marriage. If men cried, they did so with people who would empathize. But from the 18th through the20th centuries, the population became increasingly urbanised.     4     Furthermore, changes in the economy required men to work together in factories and offices where emotional expression and even private conversation were discouraged as time-wasting.

Yet human beings weren't designed to swallow their emotions, and there's reason to believe that holding back tears can be harmful to your well-being. Research from the 1980s has suggested a relationship between a person's rate of stress-related illnesses and inadequate crying.     5     A study has found that in countries where people cry the most, they also report the highest levels of satisfaction.

So it might be time to return to the free-flowing tears of the past. When misfortune strikes, let us all — men and women — join together and cry until our sleeves are soaked.

A.So where did all the male tears go?
B.No one makes an excuse to leave the room.
C.Soon, people were living in the midst of thousands- of strangers
D.Weeping is also, contrary to all expectations, correlated with happiness.
E.The question remains whether inadequate crying is harmful or beneficial.
F.In fact, male weeping was regarded as normal for most of recorded history.
G.Despite the considerable evidence, men can't express feelings freely by any means.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了死刑的判决有时候并不是一个好的,合适的惩罚方式。

【推荐3】There are times when murder is not committed because of cruelty. People may kill for other reasons such as anger, misunderstanding, and fear. Everyone has made mistakes because of such feeling. For society, it is a serious mistake to take the life of someone who has killed because it teaches everyone that forgiveness is unnecessary.

The government has the difficult job of deciding who is innocent and who is guilty, and this job can never be done perfectly. If capital punishment(死刑)is allowed, there always exists the possibility that an innocent person will be executed by mistake. When that happens, an even worse crime has been committed—the killing of an innocent person by the government. Then there is the fact that the poor and minorities get the death penalty more often than whites do. Furthermore, the idea that capital punishment stops criminals from committing murder is doubtful; studies have been unable to show that the fear of capital punishment stops someone from committing murder more than other punishments. And let us not forget that murdering the murderer is a violent act in itself; it is revenge(复仇).

The U.S. government once followed the example of Germany, Britain, France, and other nations that no longer execute their citizens-however, since 1977, our society has been allowing capital punishment again, at a high cost. We cannot imagine the pain of family members who have been waiting for years for the government’s decision to execute or not execute their loved ones. It also costs the taxpayer millions of dollars more to execute a criminal than to imprison that criminal for life. Prison is a better form of punishment because it protects society and punishes criminals by taking away their freedom.

People can change, even people who have made terrible mistakes. Life in prison gives people the chance to change. Caryl Chessman is an example of someone who became a better person in prison. He taught other prisoners how to read, and he wrote several books. Before his execution, he wrote that he had finally learned not to hate.

Chessman learned this important lesson in prison. But a dead man learns nothing, and an executed person will never change. When a government kills, it is murdering hope.

1. According to the passage, all the followings are the results of the capital punishment EXCEPT that________.
A.capital punishment doesn’t necessarily put an end to crimes
B.execution may cause an innocent person to die
C.the blacks get executed more often than the whites do
D.capital punishment may arouse a desire for revenge
2. Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE?
A.Execution will cause the pain of the criminal’s family members.
B.Life imprisonment is more expensive than execution.
C.Some murders are mistakes, caused by anger or fear.
D.America used to be among the nations which abandoned execution.
3. The writer uses the example of Caryl Chessman to prove that________.
A.everyone can become a better person in prison
B.everyone can make terrible mistakes
C.execution robs people of the chance to change
D.It is always a good thing to learn not to hate
4. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Not all people who kill are cruel.B.Capital punishment is revenge.
C.Prison can sometimes improve a person.D.Execution is not a better form of punishment.
