My name is Jack. I am eleven. I don't like to exercise but I like to play. I really like to play basketball. Yesterday my mom told me that I had to exercise. I told her, "No!" Then, I went out to play soccer with my friend, Sam. After playing soccer, we jumped high. Then we rode our bikes. Finally I came home for dinner. After I washed my hands, my mom said, "Thanks for exercising. What was she talking about? I didn't exercise. I just played with a friend! Right? In fact, I did both. My active playtime with Sam has been great exercise at the same time.

Exercising does not have to be boring. Some people think that you can only exercise at a gym. That is not true(真的). Running after a flying ball, and playing soccer with your friends are both great ways to exercise. Why not jump? You could also ride your bike. These are all great ways to exercise, too.

Please remember exercise is really just another word for "active fun!" So find a friend, choose a sport to play, and get going. You'll be so busy having a good time, and you'll forget that you are exercising.

I think Bird Flu is very dangerous. Many chickens, ducks (鸭子) and birds in China got the disease. Some of them died, but some birds flew away and they may carry germs (病菌) to other places. This is a serious problem. We must do something to solve it. Let me tell you what people have to do to keep away from the disease.

·Do morning exercise every day.

·Open the windows in the morning.

·Wash hands very often.

· Eat more vegetables and less meat.

·Go to bed early.

In order to be healthy, you should stay at a healthy weight(体重). So, how do you keep a healthy weight? You need to eat a balanced diet(平衡的饮食). You need to balance your eating with exercise.

What is a balanced diet? A balanced diet includes all the main food groups. These include fruits and vegetables. Grains found in bread, noodles, and rice are also important. You need foods such as milk and cheese. You also need to eat foods that have protein(蛋白质), such as meat, eggs, fish, and some beans.

Wow, that's a lot of food! How many calories is that? How many should you have in a day? Most teens need at least 2,000 calories a day. That sounds like a lot. But you are forgetting the other part of the balance. You need to exercise. Exercise burns(燃烧) calories. If you burn off as many calories as you take in, you will stay at the same weight. If you eat more calories than you burn, you will put on weight.

To keep your weight, eat a balanced diet and exercise more. And if it's your birthday, eat a piece of cake. Once in a while, it won't hurt you!

Now more and more adults (成年人) are enjoying relaxing hours of coloring. This is because of a new book craze (时尚), an adult coloring book craze. In December, five of the top ten best-selling books in the United States were coloring books for adults.     46    

Artist Lucido creates coloring books. Her latest coloring book contains 40 pages filled with flowers, birds and shapes.     47     And many of her customers are buying the coloring books for others who are sick. The act of coloring becomes almost healing (治愈).

    48     For example, when you are filling in a flower with a purple color, you focus on the flower and not on your troubles. Coloring can bring out your imagination (想象力).     49     The shape and form of the drawings activate one side of the brain, while the color activates the other.

    50     Jackson says coloring relaxes her and just makes her feel happy. For now, there is strong need for adult coloring books. That fact keeps Lucido happy and busy.
