Visiting outer space is still a far dream for anyone who isn’t an astronaut, but a day trip to the stars already open for people to order!
A new company, Space Perspective, is planning tests with passengers. It has big plans to run up to 500 flights from different places across the USA by 2024. If successful, reaching the outer side of space could be as easy as flying abroad in a few years’ time. The plan will be for spacemen and up to eight passengers to travel in Neptune, a capsule (太空舱) tied to a balloon , the size of a football field.
They will move slowly upwards right to the side of space, 30 km away from the Earth. There, spaced tourists will be able to look back at the Earth and out to dark space and the sight of millions of stars. Although the price is yet to be fixed, the expensive fight, which will take six hours, is likely to cost over £100,000. No special clothing or training is needed. It means that older people or those with health problems will be included.
Now Neptune faces competition from the Stratollite, a balloon being developed by a company called World View Enterprises while the super-rich Richard Branson, Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk are all pouring (倾倒) money into developing business space flying machines. The advantage of the balloon is that it will be cheaper than a space plane or rocket.

With the growing population on earth, it becomes more and more difficult for the planet to hold so many people. All the countries are looking for a way out. It seems that the powerful countries all agree on one possible solution: space colonization (殖民).
America is one of the most powerful countries in space science. The American scientists believe it is necessary to build a base on the moon. It is very likely to be built where there is ice. The only problem is its cost.
Although Russia is not as strong as America in space power for the time being, with a lot of knowledge and experience from the former Soviet Union (前苏联), many scientists think that it is just a matter of time for the Russians to land on the moon, or even the Mars.
China has made big progress in space exploration in the last twenty years. Great success has been achieved with the Shenzhou spaceships. China’s Lunar Exploration Project has completed its first two steps and is now going to the last one: to build a base on the moon.
Besides, India is believed to be the next “China” in the area due to its quick development in the field.

“You’re going to the doctor,” your mom tells you. Go to the doctor when you’re not ill? Regular checkups (定期检查) are a good idea.
It’s a chance for the doctor to see that you’re growing and developing well. It’s also a chance for your parents to talk with the doctor about safety or nutrition (营养). And it gives you a chance to ask any question you might have about your health. You might wonder when you will grow taller.
A checkup may start when a nurse calls you and your parent from the waiting room. He or she might start by checking your weight and height, your blood pressure and maybe your temperature.
Blood pressure shows how hard your heart is working for your body.
Is your temperature normal? If it is higher, it means that you have a fever and your body is working to fight.
If you have trouble with either hearing or vision (视力), see a doctor at once.
Urine (尿) can tell whether something is wrong with the way a person’s body is working.
These will go into your health record, so the doctor can look them over. Then it’s time to meet the doctor.
49. Why is it important for you to go to see the doctor?A.Regular checkups are good for you. | B.There is something wrong with you. |

Disney has made many cartoon movies. The princesses (公主们) are often girls’ favorites. However, have you noticed that Disney princesses are changing?
In the early Disney cartoon movies, princesses like Snow White, Cinderella are usually good-looking and kind-hearted. But they depend on others to get out of trouble and find happiness. They end up living happily with their princes.
But now more girls know they have to fight for their own happiness. Disney has noticed the change. So the princesses in its newer movies don’t just have good looks.
Merida is a good example. She was a princess and she likes going on adventures. She spends her days practicing archery (射箭), riding her horse and experiencing the world. She loves her family, but she wants to create her own life.
Disney even put up their “new rules for being a modern princess”. The rules include: Care for others; Live healthily; Be honest; Be friendly; Believe in yourself; Try your best; Never give up.
None of the rules are about the looks of a princess. Anyway, one’s inner beauty is more valuable.
