1 . In order to make students become more interested in learning English, 21 elementary schools in South Korea have started to use robot teachers.
The robot teacher is called Engkey. She was developed by the Korea Institute of Science and Technology. She is about one meter tall and is white, egg-shaped. She takes a display panel (显示板) as her face. She can move around the classroom while she speaks to students. She can also read books to students and dance to music by moving her head and arms.
Now, 21 robot teachers have been used to teach English. They are controlled by English teachers in the Philippines. There is a camera in each of the robot teachers. With the help of the cameras, English teachers in the Philippines can see and hear the students. At the same time, the facial expressions of these English teachers are very interesting.

Maybe they’re just having a good time.”
YouTube is full of videos of the elephants. The videos show us that the elephants lean close to (依偎) each other. One of them also shows that older elephants help stop two little elephants from falling into a hole. It is particularly popular.

9 . Have you ever noticed the Mu Us Desert in the northwest when you read a map of China? If you haven’t, then you probably never will. That’s because the Mu Us Desert is disappearing.
You might wonder: Why is this happening? Who is the “killer”? Well, it is the result of years of efforts in tree planting.
In China, the Mu Us Desert used to be one of the largest deserts in size. Sandstorms were common in northern Shanxi (陕西). Lots of people had to leave their homes. The fight against desertification (沙漠化) began in the 1970s. A huge team planned to plant trees in the desert. It once took them a whole afternoon to plant trees under a burning sun. That night, however, a strong wind blew away all the young trees. Crying was useless. The next day, the team replanted all the trees.
In Yulin, there are many other fighters. One of them is Guo Chengwang. He started to plant trees in his village when encouraged by the government in 1985. Guo is now in his nineties. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren have continued the job. The family has turned 30 km2 of desert into woods.
These trees have made a big difference. In Yulin, the number of sandy days has dropped from 100 in 2000 to 10 now. With the joined and continuing efforts, the Mu Us Desert will be gone. Our motherland will become greener and lovelier.

10 . Airships can fly because they are lighter than air, like balloons (气球).
But they also have engines (发动机), so they can fly long ways. In the 1920s and 1930s, airships carried passengers (乘客). They could fly from Europe to the U. S. in two days. That was much faster than the same trip by ship. The biggest airships had restaurants and bedrooms and carried up to 100 passengers.
The airships of that time were kind of dangerous, and many of them broke down. In 1937, a famous airship called the Hindenburg fell down near New York, and thirty-six people died. After that, passenger airships stopped flying. Planes became the most important way of carrying things and passengers because they were faster and safer.
Now a number of companies around the world are making airships again. They are much safer than the airships of the 1920s and 1930s. They are not for passengers, and they only carry things.
There are four main good points of airships:
(1)They don’t need airports. They can land in places where planes can’t.
(2)They can carry much more things than helicopters (直升飞机) can.
(3)They use much less fuel than planes and helicopter, so they are better for the environment.
(4)They can stay in the air for a long time, so they are good for the scientific work.
Today most things still travel on planes, ships, trains and trucks. But in the future, a lot more things could travel by airship because it is cheaper and better for the environment. Maybe there will be airships for passengers again too.
