It’s Good to Ask for Help
Part of growing up is learning how to work things out for yourself. However, you don’t have to struggle alone all the time.
When you might need help
There are lots of reasons why you could need help, for example, with schoolwork, learning a new skill, or when you feel sad, worried or angry. When you find something difficult, or it takes a long time to make progress, you may feel discouraged. These are all signs that you need help.
What stops you asking for help
Asking for help isn’t always easy. You might feel red-faced that you need help, or you think asking for a helping hand is a sign of weakness.
Angela McMillan, a counsellor (顾问) who advises young people, says asking for help can also feel risky, especially when you are not sure who to ask.

I’m not good at communicating with others, so my classmates don’t like talking to me. When my best friend isn’t there, I just sit at my desk quietly. I’m not good enough for anyone. I just want to die. My parents think I’m fine, and I don’t want to worry them. But I started crying in class today. What should I do?
Amy
Dear Amy,I was like you four years ago. I think we live in a world where we often compare ourselves with others. I think you should really look at yourself in the mirror and try praising (表扬) yourself. It helped you love yourself more. You know, almost everyone experiences those feelings many times in their lives. Surprised? But it’s true.
Many people think you are good enough. I am one of them. I am sure your parents and your friends feel the same. Go outside and try to hang out with people. Make small steps.
Lastly, talk with a psychiatrist (心理医生). And trust your psychiatrist. If you can’t trust him or her, then you may get the wrong person. Find another one.
I say these things because I was in your shoes once. I was ready to die. But years later, I’m here and talking to you about it. Don’t give up.

6 . Helping your children choose a hobby is very good for them. They can learn a lot when they are enjoying themselves. To help your children choose a hobby for fun, here are a few tips that may help:
Match your children’s interests. If he likes to cook, buy him a cookbook. If he enjoys collecting baseball cards, buy him a special scrapbook. Show your interests and support theirs.
Try different hobbies. Introduce a new hobby as a birthday or holiday gift. In trying something completely different, your children may become interested in it or at least get to know a new thing.
Share a hobby with your children. Take an art class as a family. Go for a mountain climbing together. Spending family time doing fun things can make a healthy and nice relationship.
Take it to the next level. If they prefer pop music, visit a singer star’s website. Take in a concert. Make it fun for everyone.
Don’t push your interests to your children. Let your children choose their own interests, though you can always introduce them to a new one. Don’t show your disappointment (失望) if they choose something different from what you think of.
Hobbies are a great way for children to learn new things. Help your children try different interests until they choose one they want to learn more about.
