文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍一项研究表明,长时间坐在电脑或电视屏幕前并不是近视的唯一原因。家长们不仅要记住限制孩子的总屏幕时间,还要鼓励他们多参加户外活动。

1 . For better eyesight (视力), doctors advise limiting (限制) the hours of screen time and encourage having enough eye resting time.

However, another study shows that sitting in front of computer or TV screens for long hours is not the only reason for myopia (近视). An Australian research team studied young children in Sydney and Singapore to find the reasons for myopia. The research team found that there were less children who had myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore, even though they spent more time in front of computer and TV screens. The major finding is that children in Sydney spend longer hours on outdoor sports than those in Singapore.

Indoor and outdoor sports both make the eyes pay attention to more distant (远处的) objects, which stops the eyes from changing original shape. But outdoor sports may be better than indoor sports for myopia. Because natural light is good for eye growth and vitamin (维他命) D from the sunlight might be useful to it. Many doctors suggest that every child get its first eye test when he/she is about two and half years old, and even if his/her sight seems good enough. It is necessary for myopic(近视的) children to wear glasses to stop headaches, trouble reading and so on. It is also important that schools invite doctors to test their students’ eyes.

If that is not possible, school teachers should at least encourage parents and children to have regular eye examination and wear glasses. And parents should remember not only to limit the total screen time for their children, but also to encourage them to spend time outdoors.

1. What did the Australian research team study for?
A.To find the reasons for myopia.
B.To find the ways to treat myopia.
C.To learn to choose right glasses.
D.To improve children’s eyesight.
2. Why are there fewer children with myopia in Sydney than those in Singapore?
A.Because the children in Sydney watch TV less.
B.Because the children in Sydney have more eye resting time.
C.Because the children in Sydney use computer less.
D.Because the children in Sydney do more outdoor sports.
3. What conclusion can we draw from the passage?
A.Sydney children don’t study hard.
B.Singapore children do few exercise.
C.Room light does harm to children’s eyes.
D.Outdoors activities do more good to eyes.
4. Which of the following is true?
A.Children should have eye tests as soon as they reach school age.
B.Looking more at distant objects can help the eyes keep their original shape.
C.Doing outdoor sports with no glasses is good for myopic children.
D.Children should limit their time in the sun to protect their eyes.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了华盛顿早年接受教育的情况,包括他对数学的兴趣、正规教育的不足、在国会辩论中的不自在等。

2 . Some of the notebooks George Washington kept as a young man are still in existence. They show that he was learning Latin, was very interested in the basis of good behavior in society, and was reading English literature.

At school he seems only to have been interested in mathematics. In fact, his formal education was surprisingly brief for a gentlemen, and incomplete. For unlike other young Virginian of that day, he did not go to the College of William and Mary in the Virginian capital of Williamsburg. In terms of formal training then, Washington contrasts sharply with some other early American President such as John Adams, Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. In later years, Washington probably regretted his lack of intellectual training. He never felt comfortable in a debate in Congress, or on any subject that had nor to do with everyday practical matters. And because he never learned French and could not speak directly to the French leaders, he did not visit the country he admired so much. Thus, unlike Jefferson and Adams, he never reached Europe.

A.lacked practice in public speaking
B.felt his education was not good enough
C.didn’t like arguing and debating with people

3. According to the author        .
A.Washington’s lack of formal education placed him at a disadvantage in later life
B.Washington should have gone to France even though he could not speak French

4. The main idea of the passage is that Washington’s education        .
A.was if great variety, covering many subjects
B.was probably equal to those of most young gentlemen of this time
C.may seem poor by modern standards but was goog enough for his time
D.was rather limited for a president

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要讲述了小孩子恐惧的事物.通过调查列出了孩子恐惧的事物,由此作者发现人们害怕的事物是不同的,并表明害怕并不是一件坏事。

3 . Everybody is afraid of something. That’s what more than 1,700 kids told us when we asked them about fears and scary stuff. We gave kids a list of 14 scary things and asked which one frightened them most. Here are the top 5 answers from our survey: ① Scary movies and TV shows; ② Scary dreams; ③Thunderstorms, hurricanes, and other horrible weather;④ War and terrorism; ⑤ Sounds heard at night.

But not everyone is afraid of the same thing. And what makes one person scared can be of no big deal for someone else. Plenty of kids said their biggest fear wasn’t on our list.

What is fear?

Fear is feeling that everyone has -- it’s programmed into all of us--and that’s a good thing because fear is there to protect us. We’re born with a sense of fear so we can react to something that could be dangerous. The baby cries, and their mom comes over to comfort him or her, helping the baby feel safe and OK again.

Real vs. Pretend

The best way to get over a fear is to get more information about it. As kids get older, they understand more and start seeing the difference between what is real and unreal. So when William’s imagination leads him to think of witches, he can tell himself, “Wait a minute. They’re only pretend things. I don’t need to worry about them.”

The same goes for the dark. A kid’s imagination can start playing tricks when the lights go out. What’s under my bed? Is that a thief i hear? With the help of a parent, kids can get more comfortable in the dark. Using a nightlight or shining a flashlight under the bed to see that there’s nothing there can help kids fight that fear.

1. What is paragraph 2 mainly about ?
A.The list of fears is not complete
B.The things people fear are of no big fear.
C.Kids have more fears than people think.
D.People are afraid of different things.
2. In the writer’s opinion,        .
A.having a sense of fear is not a bad thing.
B.babies have a weak sense of fear.
C.fear is not something that we are born with
D.not all people can react to dangerous things.
3. What does the underlined word “pretend” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.UglyB.UsualC.UnrealD.Lovely

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章通过介绍英国标准音之外的一些方言使用情况,说明了地方口音对人们生活的影响。

5 . Foreign visitors to the UK might be disappointed when they learn that not everyone there speaks like Harry Potter and his friends. Usually, there’s an assumption by many non-Brits that everyone in Britain speaks with what’s known as a Received Pronunciation (RP,标准发音) accent, also called “the Queen’s English”. However, while many people do talk this way, most Britons speak in their own regional accents (口音).

Scouse, Glaswegian and Black Country — from Liverpool, Glasgow and the West Midlands — are just three of the countless non-RP accents that British people speak with. There are even differences in accents between towns or cities just 30 kilometers apart. What is even more disappointing is that not speaking in a RP accent may mean a British person is judged and even treated differently in their everyday life.

In a 2015 study by The University of South Wales, videos of people reading a passage in three different UK accents were shown to a second group of people. The group then rated how intelligent they thought the readers sounded. The lowestrated accent was Brummie, native to people from Birmingham, a city whose accent is considered working class.

However, there is no need to be disappointed though you are not speaking in a RP accent. In fact, doing the opposite may even give you strength.

Kong Seongjae, 25, is an Internet celebrity from Seoul. After studying in the UK, he picked up several regional accents. He’s now famous for his online videos, where he shows off the various accents he’s learned. “British people usually get really excited when I use some of their local dialect words, and they become much friendlier. I think it makes a bit of bond between local people and foreigners to speak in their local accent,” he said.

So if you’re working on perfecting your British accent, try to speak like someone from Liverpool, Glasgow or Birmingham. You may not sound like Harry Potter, but you are likely to make more friends.

1. What can we infer from Paragraph 1?
A.Non-Brits usually hold that all Britons speak in a RP accent.
B.Only “the Queen’s English” is accepted in the UK.
C.Foreign visitors are disappointed at their on spoken English.
D.Any Received Pronunciation around the world is also called “the Queen’s English”.
2. What do people think of the Brummie accent?
A.Favored by foreign visitors to the UK.B.Closest to the RP accent.
C.Smart and easy to understand.D.Spoken by people of lower class.
3. What does the underlined phrase “doing the opposite” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Speaking in a RP accent.B.Speaking in regional accents.
C.Speaking the Brummie accent.D.Speaking like Harry Potter.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.A study about the most intelligent accent in Britain.
B.A comparison between different British accents.
C.How much British people value the RP accent.
D.The influence of regional accents on people’s lives.

My mom dropped me off at the school gate about five minutes before the bell rang. A little blonde girl got dropped off at the same time and started waving (招手) at me. 文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章讲述了现在的父母不理解孩子的心理变化,并向父母提出了关于如何理解孩子的建议。

10 . Parents often believe that they have a good relationship with their teenagers. But last summer, Joanna and Henry noticed a change in their older son. Suddenly he seemed to be talking far more to his friends than to his parents. “The door to his room is always shut,” Joanna noted.

Tina and Mark noticed similar changes in their 14-year-old daughter. “She used to cuddle up (依偎) against me on the sofa and talk,” said Mark. “Now we joke that she does this only when she wants something. Sometimes she wants to be treated like a little girl and sometimes like a young lady. The problem is understanding which time is which.”

Before age 11, children like to tell their parents what’s on their mind. “In fact, parents are first on the list,” said Michael Riera, author of Uncommon Sense for Parents with Teenagers. “This completely changes during the teen years,” Riera explained. “They talk to their friends first, then maybe their teachers, and their parents last.”

Parents who know what’s going on in their teenagers’ lives are in the best position to help them. To break down the wall of silence, parents should create chances to understand what their children want to say, and try to find ways to talk and write to them. And they must give their children a mental (思想的) break, for children also need freedom, though young. Another thing parents should remember is that to be a friend, not a manager, with their children is a better way to know them.

1. “The door to his room is always shut” suggests that the son ________.
A.keeps himself away from his parentsB.begins to dislike his parents
C.is always busy with his studyD.doesn’t want to be ignored
2. What does trouble Tina and Mark?
A.Their daughter isn’t as lovely as before.
B.They can’t read their daughter’s mind exactly.
C.They don’t know what to say to their daughter.
D.Their daughter talks with them only when she needs help.
3. Which of the following best explains “the wall of silence” in the last paragraph?
A.Teenagers talk a lot with their friends.B.Teenagers do not understand their parents.
C.Teenagers talk little about their own lives.D.Teenagers do not talk much with their parents.
4. What can we learn from the passage?
A.Parents shouldn’t be angry with teenagers.
B.Parents have to talk with children face to face.
C.Parents are unhappy with their growing children.
D.Parents should try to understand their teenagers.
