文章大意:本文是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了四部迪士尼电影。

1 . Here are the Disney movies recommended by Brandon Dammit for this weekend.

Fantasia 2000

Budget: $80 million

Score: 75%

I remember disliking Fantasia 2000 in theaters as a young child, but I have developed a much deeper appreciation for the fantastic music as an adult. Disney has employed advanced sound tools to produce a movie that was under-appreciated at its first appearance.

Pete’s Dragon

Budget: $65 million

Score: 60%

I love Disney as much as the younger generation. But it’s disappointing to see flavorless remakes like The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast harvest billions at the box office while more soulful remakes like Pete’s Dragon is largely ignored.

The Rescuers Down Under

Budget: $38 million

Score: 70%

I won’t lie to you, kind reader. The Rescuers Down Under is the only movie that I’ve never seen here and my honor won’t allow me to pretend otherwise. According to Disney, it’s about the world’s bravest mice, Bernard and Bianca, who race to Australia to save a boy and a rare golden eagle from a cruel hunter. So, you know, normal Disney stuff.

The Great Mouse Detective

Budget: $14 million

Score: 72%

Picture this: a young mouse named Olivia is committed to discovering the truth of her father’s disappearance in 1897 London, and she got the help from his friends, Dr. Dawson and Toby. It’s basically Disney’s Sherlock Holmes.

1. What does Brandon Dammit like about Fantasia 2000?
A.The plot.B.The dialogue.C.The music.D.The actors.
2. Which remake should receive better acceptance according to Brandon Dammit?
A.The Lion King.B.Pete’s Dragon.
C.Beauty and the Beast.D.The Rescuers Down Under.
3. How much has Disney spent on the Great Mouse Detective?
A.$14 million.B.$ 38 million.C.$ 65 million.D.$80 million.

3 . 阅读下面短文, 根据所给情节进行续写, 使之构成一个完整的故事。

Katie was exceptionally small. We were in the fifth grade, but she was as short as a third grader. Although her body was small, Katie was big at heart. She had a sharp mind, too. Sometimes she got her share of teasing, but Katie knew how to handle it. All the kids who knew Katie liked her a lot.

Katie loved helping others in the class, so whenever someone was stuck on the computer he always called her for help and advice. Katie loved jokes and she always had a joke that would cheer someone up whenever he was down. She was truly the most kind and generous friend anyone could ask for.

But the other day she was in big trouble. She was such a sweet girl; a third-grade teacher always dreamed of having a classroom filled with students like Katie. She was never ever a discipline(纪律)problem. I just couldn’t imagine why she had made her parents so angry.

It seemed that Katie had been running up(积欠)sizable charges in the lunchroom. Her parents explained that Katie brought a great homemade lunch each day, and there was no reason for her to buy school lunch. They assumed a sit-down with Katie would solve the problem, but failed. So they asked me to help them get to the bottom of this situation.

So the next day, I asked Katie to my office. “Why are you charging(记账)lunches, Katie? What happens to your homemade lunch?” I asked. “I lose it,” She responded. I leaned back in my chair and said, “I don’t believe you, Katie.” She didn’t care. “Is someone stealing your lunch, Katie?” I took a new track. “No. I just lose it,” she said. Well, there was nothing else I could do.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为 100 左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

The problem was still unsolved the next week until I noticed a boy in the school canteen.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要说明了耳虫症时有发生,一项研究表明,90%的人都有过这种经历。文章解释了为什么会发生这种情况以及对付该情况的一些方法。

7 . As I write this, a Bob Seger song is stuck in my head. It’s been playing on repeat ever since I heard it in a movie. I hated it a lot when it first came out years ago, and I still really hate it now. Why, oh why, does an earworm happen? This phenomenon, known as an earworm, is both fascinating and annoying. Earworms are a type of auditory imagery, where we perceive a tone without actually hearing it. When a familiar song is heard and suddenly stopped, some areas of the brain become overly activated in expectation of hearing the rest of the song, and then it fills in the missing pieces.

Anyone can experience earworms, but certain personality characteristics, like openness to experience, may increase their frequency. You may have seen a popular TikTok recently of a guy saying earworms aren’t normal but are instead symptoms of ADHD (多动症) or OCD (强迫症). That’s generally not the case. “It is entirely normal to experience earworms: Over 90% of participants in large-scale surveys report having had earworms at least once a week, and they are not a symptom of any other underlying mental condition,” says Jakubowski. Interestingly, earworms aren’t all bad. Research indicates that they can enhance our ability to recall past events, as the repetitive nature of the song strengthens our memory.

There are several strategies to get rid of earworms. Listening to the entire song can help resolve the unfinished loop. Alternatively, distracting yourself with another melody or engaging in activities that require focus can also be effective. Chewing gum or eating something crunchy may interrupt the song playing in your head. Despite these strategies, sometimes the best approach is to simply accept the presence of the earworm and let it fade away naturally. In my case, trying to actively rid myself of the song only made it more persistent. It seems patience is key when dealing with these stubborn musical guests in our minds.

1. What is an earworm?
A.A type of insect that affects hearing.B.A song that gets stuck in your head.
C.A medical condition related to the ears.D.An element missing in a song.
2. Which of the following statement is true about earworms?
A.They cannot be controlled or stopped.B.They indicate underlying illness.
C.They only occur in certain individuals.D.They are normal phenomena.
3. What benefit can be expected of earworms?
A.To enhance memory recall of earlier incidents.
B.To increase musical creativity and imagination.
C.To expand openness to new experiences.
D.To improve focus and concentration.
4. How does the author feel about earworms?
A.Concerned and worried.B.Scientific but negative.
C.Annoyed but accepting.D.Excited and fascinated.

文章大意:本文为一篇说明文,介绍了牛仔裤的由来和着色原理。

8 . Blue jeans are as American as eating a hot dog at a baseball game. But have you ever stopped to wonder why most of us have blue jeans but not red, purple, or green jeans?

Jeans are made of denim, which is a type of strong cotton cloth. Jeans became wildly popular in the American West during the California Gold Rush. This period in the mid-1800s saw 300, 000 people pack up their lives and head west in search of fortune (财富). Searching for gold was difficult work, as people would dig into the side of mountains and look for gold that had made its way into rivers and streams, and they needed durable clothing to help them. Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis saw a chance not in gold, but in selling clothes to the tens of thousands of people arriving every year. They teamed up to create indigo — washed cloth.

So why did they use indigo(blue)to color their jeans? It has to do with the character of indigo. While most other colors penetrate (渗透) deep inside clothing, indigo stays on the surface of the threads (线). This means that when clothing colored with indigo is washed, some of the threads and coloring are removed. Over time and after much cleaning, jeans colored with indigo become softer and more comfortable as well as get that “worn in” look we all love.

Blue jeans are blue — or indigo — because they need to be tough and stand up to a hard day’s work, and also be soft and comfortable. And while many of those in search of gold never found their fortune, Levi Strauss’ blue jeans became wildly popular, and the company is still selling blue jeans 150 years later.

1. Why is Gold Rush mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A.To prove people’s hard lives then.
B.To tell us why blue jeans were created.
C.To share Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis’ story.
D.To show an important period in American history.
2. What does the underlined word “durable” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Bright.B.Fashionable.C.Strong.D.Beautiful.
3. Why was blue used to color the jeans?
A.The color and threads could be removed easily.
B.The jeans could become much stronger.
C.It could color the jeans’ threads easily.
D.It penetrated deep inside clothing.
4. What can we learn from Levi Strauss’ success?
A.Success results from hard work.
B.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
C.Failure is meaningful if we learn from it.
D.Fortune prefers those who use their judgement.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲的是Alison Teal探索世界的故事以及她的环保理念。

9 . Born to an adventure-loving mom and a National Geographic’s photographer dad, Alison Teal was already exploring the world as a baby. The family traveled the globe staying not at five-star hotels but in a six-foot-wide tent. From cold mountaintops to hot jungles, they completely involved themselves in local nature and culture.

Between journeys, they would return home to a quiet and faraway part of the Big Island of Hawaii, where they built a solar-powered oceanfront rest center. The front yard was the ocean, and Alison’s friends were dolphins. She would dive into the water and release seaweed. A dolphin would catch it on its nose or fin and throw it to the next player. Over the years, the dolphins grew to trust Alison. They looked for her and came close to her in the water.

After graduating from university, she continued her world travels. Her adventurous childhood and life skills landed her a spot in the reality show Naked and Afraid, in which she and her partner had to live on an unwelcoming island for 21 days. Alison’s deep knowledge of how to live in a wilderness saved the pair, but what shocked her was the amount of trash washed upon the shore.

“After that, I couldn’t ignore our plastic problem. I shifted my focus and started to protect our greatest resource, the ocean,” says Alison. Swimming in familiar waters back home, she also found her dolphin friends were no longer tossing (抛) seaweed to each other, but plastic. “That was distressing,” she says.

Her book, Alison’s Adventures: Your Passport to the World, is fled with travel tales and environmental lessons. She also offers free adventure films to go along with each chapter on her YouTube and TikTok. Alison believes all of us can make changes to protect the Earth and, in turn, those we love. “Whether you’re a lawyer, a gardener, an artist, a teacher or a surfer, we can all help in our own ways,” she says.

1. What can we infer from the first paragraph?
A.Alison Teal had a comfortable life when she was young.
B.Alison Teal was fond of photography when she was young.
C.Alison Teal’s parents we restrict with her when she was young.
D.Alison Teal led a life close to nature when she was young.
2. What alarmed Alison Teal during her participation in the reality show?
A.The amount of trash washed upon the shore.
B.The unwelcoming island where they had to live.
C.The lack of resources in the wilderness.
D.The dangerous situations they encountered.
3. When did Alison Teal decide to shift her focus and start protecting the ocean?
A.During a journey with her parents.
B.After her participation in a show.
C.Before her graduation from university.
D.When visiting the Big Island of Hawaii.
4. What’s Alison Teal’s opinion about protecting the Earth?
A.Everyone can contribute in their own ways.
B.Only certain professions can make a difference.
C.It is impossible to make any significant changes.
D.It is the responsibility of governments and organizations.

文章大意:本文是记叙文。它讲述了一位名叫赵岳芳的邮政工作人员在太行山的危险山路上投递邮件的故事,通过描述他的工作经历和所面临的挑战,展现了其坚持不懈和奉献精神。

10 . For nearly two decades, a thin, sun-burnt postal worker could frequently be seen carrying packages along a dangerous mountain trail in the Taihang Mountains.

The 10-kilometer-long route, which is between 20 centimeters and 1 meter wide, is known as the “cat road” by locals, meaning that it is so dangerous that only cats could walk on it. Whereas, Zhao Yuefang, a postal worker in Ewu township in Huguan county, Shanxi province, had to walk the route every day to deliver mail.

Every day at the crack of dawn, he would start his journey along the “cat road”. From picking up the day’s post to delivering it to villagers and returning along the same route, it took Zhao four days. During rainy and snowy seasons, the mountain road, part of which hugs the cliffs, would become slippery and dangerous. One day in the winter of 2003, the “cat road” was covered in thick snow and he slipped off the trail. Fortunately, he was able to stop his sharp descent by grabbing a tree branch and slowly managed to climb to safety.

By 2012, Zhao had walked more than 300,000 km and delivered over 800,000 pieces of mail. Born and raised in the deep mountains, Zhao truly understands the significance of mail deliveries to villagers. “They depend on the mail to keep in touch with the outside world,” he said. “Their sheer joy written on their face while receiving any post struck me,” he added.

In 2012, a 67-km-long tourist highway was built and gone were those days when Zhao risked his life to walk on the “cat road”. But Zhao was even busier than before. “The number of packages I handle daily now exceeds the number I used to deal with in the past,” said Zhao, adding that villagers are turning to online shopping and ordering more and more goods by post.

1. Why is the mountain trail referred to as “cat road”?
A.It’s shaped like a cat.B.It’s intended for cats.
C.It is too narrow and risky.D.It rains cats and dogs there.
2. What does the word “descent” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Fall.B.Pain.
C.Turn.D.Landing.
3. According to the passage, which words can best describe Zhao?
A.Persistent and dedicated.B.Diligent and ambitious.
C.Considerate and confident.D.Courageous and generous.
4. What has always motivated Zhao’s enthusiasm for his job?
A.The villagers’ respect for him.
B.His being born and raised there.
C.Today’s huge number of the packages.
D.The value of the deliveries to the locals.
