3 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Jim stared at the ground and sighed in disappointment. Players from the opposing team raced past Jim, celebrating their shocking victory. They’d scored the game-winning goal just seconds before the end of the game.

“Just one word to describe a loss like that,” Jim mumbled to his teammate Devin.

“Terrible!” Devin sighed. “It was a tough one.” He trotted (小步快跑) toward the middle of the field to shake hands with the winning team. Jim walked slowly behind Devin. He unhappily slapped hands with the winners, then stopped to shut his eyes as the autumn air cooled his sweaty face.

“Terrible,” he repeated to himself as he sat on the bench and pulled his jacket on. “Let’s get some hot chocolate and watch the next game,” Devin said. There were eight teams in the YMCA league, so games would go on all morning. “Sorry. I’m heading home,” Jim said, “I’ve had enough soccer for today.”

As he reached the gate, Jim glanced back to see the next two teams take the field. They were jumping and shouting, excited to play. “That was us a little while ago, before we were discouraged.” Jim thought.

So why we lost the game at last? Jim asked himself. How did such a well-played game end up with such a terrible result? It was still clear in his head: Jim had the ball deep on the Jets’ side of the field, looking for Devin or another teammate to pass to. His team had outplayed the Jets for most of the game, but failed within the last seconds.

Jim let out a deep breath. The morning was growing warmer. Perfect for soccer. Jim looked back toward the field. He couldn’t see it, but he could hear the excited voices as the game continued.

7 . Competition is a huge part of our culture. We encourage our athletes to secure victory on the field.     1     Sportsmanship is an essential trait of a strong athlete. Here are a few tips on how you can help your little athlete experience a loss just as gracefully as he/she can experience a victorious win.

Focus on improvement, rather than on the win.

Instead of focusing on the win of the game, motivate your child to focus on individual or collective improvement.     2     Make mention of how well the team executed a play on the field. In doing this, your child will learn to see the value in the entire experience.

Be a role model.

As parents, it can be difficult to keep quiet, especially after the loss of a game, but when the game is over, your child is observing how you respond to every win and every loss. Therefore, it is essential to demonstrate a positive attitude after each game. Be the role model that your child needs in order to achieve greatness on and off the field.     3

    4

Victory instills excitement and pride. After a win, however, sportsmanship is a vital part of a young athlete’s journey. Enthusiastically encourage your child to shake hands with his/her opponent. Teach them that once the final play of the game is over, the opposing team is no longer a rival, but rather their peers.     5     The practice of shifting focus from winning enables your child to appreciate other valuable elements of the game.

A.Encourage sportsmanship.
B.Ignore victory intentionally.
C.Win with humility, loose with grace, and do both with dignity.
D.Inspire your child to reflect on what skills he/she has improved.
E.However, it is important to teach children to gracefully win and lose.
F.Each of your demonstrations in life is a teachable moment for your child!
G.Additionally, encourage your child to learn from some of the strengths of the other team.

9 . Most athletes and parents would agree that sportsmanship is an important aspect of athletics. Although it comes in many forms, everyone can list what sportsmanship looks like. We shake hands before and after games.     1     These examples are just displaying good sportsmanship.

It is easy for parents and kids to get caught up in a game and become too focused on winning. Although winning is important, it is not always the most important aspect of the game.     2     Good sportsmanship is one of those life lessons that should be intentionally learned, taught and practiced.

No matter how much we would like to, we cannot win at everything every time.     3     After a hard-fought game, the loser felt frustrated in a losing effort. It can be very difficult to look your opponents in the eye and tell them “good job”. But this is what is asked of athletes. How do we handle losing with dignity?

4     Almost nobody is willing to come second in a game, but only one can be champion. There is no need to be overcome with defeat. Instead, accept failure and face up to it bravely, believing failure is the mother of success. Recognize the winners and congratulate them.

Winning is fun! It is the reward for your hard work. When we participate in a sport that keeps score, it is our responsibility to the team to do our best to win within the rules of the game and within the spirit of the game.     5

A.Keep losing in perspective.
B.So we need to learn to deal with defeat.
C.Besides, winning doesn’t mean you are perfect.
D.We clap for injured players once they are on their feet.
E.There is so much to be gained from an athletic experience.
F.We must ensure they have a fun and safe sports experience.
G.But winning becomes a negative when it is a team’s only goal.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

It was the Annual Inter-school Primary Sports Meet at the National Stadium. I sat down next to my principal, Mr Tan, in the preparation room as he gave me some words of encouragement. I was taking part in the 100-metre race event.

“Just one more gold medal from the last event, Tyson! You can do it! Nila Primary School will win the Champion School Cup!” Mr Tan encouraged me before he left the room. Just then, I saw Robert, the best runner from Sunshine Primary School, walking towards me. Suddenly, he grabbed my T-shirt and pulled me towards him. I could smell his terrible breath. “You are nothing! You will never beat me!” Robert said, trying to make me angry.

I pushed him away and shouted at him. “The same to you! I’m not frightened by your threats!” I replied with a fearless glare. Hearing this, Robert walked away, speechless. Soon, we heard an announcement to gather at the starting point. As I looked up and heard the deafening cheer from the sea of spectators (观众), I was awed. The atmosphere was exciting!

“On your mark. Get set!” the judge announced. There was dead silence in the air. Suddenly, I heard the firing of the starter’s gun and I burst forth. Robert and I were neck and neck until I spotted a frog leaping towards us. Robert screamed and ran into my lane suddenly. Unfortunately, we tripped over each other and landed hard on the tracks. There was a loud gasp from the spectators stand. Other competitors rushed by and none stopped to help us. Sportsmanship arose from my heart suddenly. I got up and helped Robert to his feet. He could not run so I put my right arm over his shoulders and we walked slowly past the finish line. The crowd cheered. The moment we crossed that, Robert thanked me and sat down heavily to the ground. I later knew that he had suffered an ankle injury.
