1 . Anabela Malpique, an expert in handwriting from Murdoch University, Australia, urged (敦促,极力主张) parents to help their children move away from using phones and other devices to pencils and paper. “Research tells us in the primary years that kids need to spend more time developing handwriting skills,“ she said, “especially in the first three years of schooling to develop their hand-eye co-ordination (协调能力).”

Handwriting is more important than typing on a keyboard for kids’ development in the first years of school. And parents need to support that under the guidance of the teachers. Therefore, NSW Primary Principals’ Association president Robyn Evans urged parents to improve their child’s fine coordinated skills before they enter a school through painting and cutting with scissors (剪刀). Now Australian schools require that in the NAPLAN test the third years must still write with a pen and paper in their final exams.

Ella Losi, a handwriting coach, said she helped school-age children improve their writing, but when she taught university students, whose writing in exams was unreadable, she felt unbearable and annoyed. “Speed is important and so is legibility, but they seem unable to do that, eventually causing their failure in exams and even in communication,” said Ella Losi.

A NSW Education Standards Authority spokeswoman said students learn handwriting from kindergarten to Year 2. And by Year 4 they are required to write fluently and consistently when composing sentences and texts. While digital technology, including keyboards, was used from kindergarten to Year 10, teachers make decisions about how digital technology is used in class.

Mum Jvala Nolan, whose five-year-old twins started kindergarten this week, said she forced them to do a page or two of handwriting at home regularly, instead of using tablets. She said, “I know there’s a lot of typing in school now, but handwriting has more structure and it teaches them co-ordination.”

1. How is the first paragraph developed?
A.By stating facts.B.By conveying a lesson
C.By showing an example.D.By listing the research result.
2. Why is handwriting vital to preschool kids according to the text?
A.It may help them get good marks in exams.
B.It can prepare them for further development.
C.It can equip them with fine coordinated skills.
D.It may enable them to speed their writing response.
3. What does the underlined word “legibility” in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
A.Good performance.B.Clear and readable writing.
C.Proper but unique printing.D.Smooth and effective communication.
4. Why is Jvala Nolan mentioned in the last paragraph?
A.To state that using tablets to type should be banned.
B.To present how parents train their kids’ handwriting.
C.To offer the reason why handwriting is more important.
D.To show parents have attached importance to kids’ handwriting.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是对2080年的教育的展望。

4 . Education in 2080 is distinctive from education in the 2020s. Until about 2035, the main function of education systems was to supply the economy with the next generation of workers. In 2080, the purpose of education is the well-being of society and all its members. To make this a bit more tangible for you, I would like to give an example of what a child’s education looks like in 2080. Her name is Shemsy. Shemsy is 13, and she is confident and loves learning.

Shemsy does not go to school in the morning because schools as you know them no longer exist. The institution was abolished as it was widely thought of as more like a prison or a factory than a creative learning environment. Schools have been replaced with “Learning Hubs” that are not restricted to certain ages. They are where intergenerational learning happens, in line with the belief that learning is a lifelong pursuit.

Every year, Shemsy designs her learning journey for the year with a highly attentive “teacher-citizen”. Shemsy is actively engaged in designing her education and has to propose projects she would like to be involved in to contribute to and serve her community. She also spends lots of time playing as the role of play in learning has finally been recognized as essential and core to our humanity. Shemsy works a lot collaboratively. Access to education is universal, and higher education institutions no longer differentiate themselves by how many people they reject yearly. Variability between students is expected and leveraged (利用) as young people teach one another and use their differences as a source of strength. Shemsy naturally explores what she is curious about at a pace she sets. She still has some classes to take that are mandatory for children globally: Being Human and the History of Humanity.

We invite you to think about your vision for education in the year 2080, what does it look like, who does it serve, and how does it transform our societies?

1. What does paragraph 1 mainly tell us?
A.There are different types of education.
B.The present education needs improvements.
C.Education and economy are closely associated.
D.The goal of future education is fundamentally different.
2. What do we know about the Learning Hub that Shemsy goes to?
A.It accepts students of all ages.B.It promotes competition.
C.It discourages individualized learning.D.It is all about play-based learning.
3. What does the underlined word “mandatory” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Tough.B.Satisfactory.C.Optional.D.Required.
4. What is the suitable title for the text?
A.An Example to AllB.A Vision for Education
C.A Challenge for EducationD.A Journey into the Future

文章大意:这是一篇议论文。针对在未来社会的不确定性背景下,对需要培养什么样的人进行了论述。

5 . For many years we have talked about education in a changing society but have done little to educate for uncertainty. Perhaps the best insurance we can offer for this uncertainty is the presence of a good mind. To develop a good mind the student must learn how to learn and develop a taste for learning. The world of tomorrow needs flexible individuals, intelligently mobile individuals, individuals who can land on their feet when their jobs become technologically outdated, and individuals who can deal with the unexpected.

To educate for flexibility we must distinguish between training and education. To train is to emphasize immediate goals to neglect (忽视) the long-term growth. To educate, however, is to foster (培养) limitless growth to develop the good mind.

An inevitable element in education for flexibility is an attitude favorable to change. This is hard to develop. It requires faith in oneself and in the future. Then, what can the school and college do to build an attitude more favorable to change? Certainly they can and must develop the self-confidence of students, and build them up with repeated success instead of constant failure. Schools and colleges can help students admire what is admirable and provide continuing guidance in how to become a real person having faith in the future and having a good mind of his own.

To meet the striking social changes of the future, continuing education is a necessity. As Native Americans noted, you should keep on learning as long as you're ignorant. The flexibly educated person knows that today's fact may be tomorrow's misconception. So we should raise awareness of lifelong learning.

The test of a modern society capable of meeting change with accelerated (加速的) evolution instead of revolution does not lie in asking, “Is everybody learning?” To be learning is not only a condition for survival; it is also the basis for being richly alive.

1. What does the underlined words “land on their feet” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Rise to their feet.B.Keep the feet on the ground.
C.Stick to convention.D.Get out of a difficult situation.
2. What can schools and colleges do to develop flexibility?
A.They can offer short-term training to students.
B.They can help students develop a good attitude to life.
C.They can build up students’ confidence with constant success.
D.They can stimulate the sense of pride of students and teachers.
3. What can we infer from the passage?
A.Real education is aimed at long-term growth.
B.A flexible mind could turn misconception into truth.
C.Evolution speeds up the changes of the modern society.
D.Lifelong learning is the only guarantee of a bright future.
4. You can read this text in a/an ___________.
A.reference bookB.journal of education
C.traveling magazineD.art book

文章大意:本文是一篇新闻报道,主要介绍的是纽约市公立学校将禁止学生和教师使用ChatGPT,他们担心这一人工智能工具会助长学生作弊和错误信息的传播。

6 . New York City public schools will ban students and teachers from using ChatGPT, a powerful new AI chatbot (聊天机器人) tool, on the district’s networks and devices, an official confirmed to CNN on Thursday.

The move comes amid educators’ growing concerns that the tool, which generates frighteningly convincing responses and even essays in response to user prompts (提示), could make it easier for students to cheat on assignments. Some also worry that ChatGPT could be used to spread incorrect information.

“Due to concerns about negative impacts on student learning, and concerns regarding the safety and accuracy of content, access to ChatGPT is restricted on New York City Public Schools’ networks and devices,” Jenna Lyle, the deputy press secretary for the New York public schools, said in a statement.

“While the tool may be able to provide quick and easy answers to questions, it does not build critical-thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for academic and lifelong success.”

OpenAI opened up access to ChatGPT in late November. It is able to provide lengthy, thoughtful and thorough responses to questions and prompts, ranging from factual questions like “Who was the president of the United States in 1955” to more open-ended questions such as “What’s the meaning of life?”

ChatGPT went viral just days after its launch. But many educators fear students will use the tool to cheat on assignments. One user, for example, fed ChatGPT an AP English exam question; it responded with a 5-paragraph essay about Wuthering Heights. Another user asked the chatbot to write an essay about the life of William Shakespeare four times; he received a unique version with the same prompt each time.

Darren Hicks, assistant professor of philosophy at Furman University, told CNN it will be harder to prove when a student misuses ChatGPT than with other forms of cheating.

1. What did Jenna Lyle think of ChatGPT?
A.It provides incorrect answers.B.It serves no practical purpose.
C.It offers inaccurate information.D.It fails to improve students’ skills.
2. What do educators fear about ChatGPT?
A.It will affect students’ studies.B.It will lead to students cheating.
C.It will result in students’ long screen time.D.It will offer unhealthy contents to students.
3. What do we learn about ChatGPT?
A.It can’t write Chinese essays.B.It can’t answer open-ended questions.
C.It makes no mistakes when answering questions.D.It can offer different essays for the same prompt.
4. What would be the most suitable title for the text?
A.ChatGPT Makes Cheating More Difficult to Find
B.ChatGPT Surprises the Public with Its Intelligence
C.ChatGPT Has Negative Effects on Students' Learning
D.ChatGPT will be banned in New York City Public Schools

8 . Research suggests public support for spanking (打屁股) has been falling over the years. But surveys also show that 75 percent to nearly 90 percent of parents admit spanking their child at least once.

I was raised in a zero-tolerance home for disrespect, and my parents often turned to physical punishment. And, no, I don’t feel I was damaged by it.

Nothing is more annoying than watching ill-mannered behavior from children.

But two years ago, Newsweek reported that it had found data suggesting that teens whose parents used physical punishment were more likely to become aggressive.

Murray Straus, professor at the University of New Hampshire in America, has studied the topic of children and spanking for decades. He said that children who were physically punished have lower IQs than their peers. It may be that children with lower IQs were more likely to get spanked, but the punishment may have been counterproductive (反作用的) to their mental development, as well.

Some researchers make the argument that occasional open-handed smacks (用巴掌打) on the bottom are not only harmless but can have some benefit.

Last year, Marjorie Gunnoe, a psychologist at Calvin College, studied teens who have never spanked. There are a greater number of children growing up without ever having been physically punished. Gunnoe’s research suggests they don’t turn out any better than those who were sometimes spank.

There are some parents who simply cannot control their tempers. But I still believe that the best parents are the ones who are able to offer fair and firm discipline without ever turning to physical punishment.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了霸凌现象出现的原因以及解决方法。

10 . A child who suffers bullying(霸凌)usually has low self-esteem and ability to learn and be successful at school is greatly lessened. Therefore, bullying must be stopped.

The best and most obvious way to stop bullying in schools is for parents to change the way they raise their children at home. Of course, this is much easier said than done and everyone raises their children differently. Bullies, however, come from homes where physical punishment is used and children have been taught that physical violence is the way to handle problems and“get their way”. Bullies usually also come from homes where the parents fight a lot, so children have been modeled on such violence. Parental involvement is often lacking in bullies’ lives and there seems to be little warmth.

Early intervention(干预)is truly the best way to stop bullying, but parents of the victims or therapists(治疗师)cannot alter the bully’s home environment. Some things can be done at the school level, however. Most school programs that address bullying apply a multi-faceted method to the problem.

Hand out questionnaires to all students and teachers and discuss if bullying is occurring. Define exactly what constitutes(构成)bullying at school. The questionnaire is a wonderful tool that allows the school to see how widespread bullying is and what forms it is taking. It is a good way to start to solve the problem.

Get the children’s parents involved in a bullying program. If parents of the bullies and the victims are not aware of what is going on at school, then the whole bullying program will not be effective. Stopping bullying in school takes teamwork and concentrated effort on everyone’s part. Bullying also should be discussed during parent-teacher conferences and PTA meetings. Parental awareness is the key.

In the classroom setting. All teachers should work with the students on bullying. Oftentimes even the teacher is being bullied in the classroom and a program should be set up to teach about bullying. Children understand modeling behaviors and role-play and acting out bullying situations is a very effective tool. Have students role-play a bullying situation.

1. In the author’s opinion, bullies usually         .
A.experience or witness violence at home
B.know little of the harm of violence
C.look forward to parental involvement
D.have extremely high self-esteem
2. What does the underlined word “alter” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.UnderstandB.Remove.C.ChangeD.Approach
3. Paragraph 5 suggests that it’s important to         .
A.make parents conscious of bullying at school
B.let parents know their children are bullies
C.find the key to improving security at school
D.make a punishment program effective.
4. What is the passage mainly about?
A.How to comfort those who are bullied.
B.What leads to violence in school.
C.What parents can do to stop bullying.
D.How to stop bullying in school
