John Snow was a well-known doctor in London. Cholera was the most deadly diseases of its day. Neither its cause nor its cure were understood. So many thousands of terrified people died every time when there was an outbreak.
At that time, there were theories explained how cholera killed people. John Snow suspected the second one. As the disease spreaded quickly through the poor neighborhoods, he began to gather the information. He marked on a map the exact places all the dead people had lived. The map gave a valuable clue about the cause of the disease—the water from Broad Street pump seemed to be to blame. However, he found the water came from the polluted river.
With other two cases, John Snow announced for certainty that the polluted water carried the disease and suggested that the source of all water supplies was examined. Finally “King cholera” was defeated.

When I was a little boy, I was always hoping to visit Tian’anmen Square. My dream finally comes true last summer vacation. Although there was a shower, but the rain stopped soon and the sun came out quickly. More and more people came to the square to breathing the cool and fresh air. Suddenly some people shouted excited. I noticed much of them were looking up into the sky. I did same and saw a beautiful rainbow, what was like a seven-colored bridge, hanging in the sky. See a symbol of good fortune during my visit to my favorite place, I felt very pleasing. The unforgettable experience will always stay in our mind.

One summer morning when I was a little kid, my parents went to the work and I was alone at home. Feeling terrible bored, I wanted to do something. When I saw my dirty shirts, the idea of wash them hit me. It was my first time to wash my clothes by me. Without experiences, I struggled to do it. After I finished, I took them out but hung them. When my parents reached home, they found I have already washed them, but the clothes was still dirty. But it didn’t make them angrily. Instead, they praised me doing something on my own.
Last Saturday, I took on a bus to the museum. On the bus, a young man was smoking. I want to advise him to stop smoking but I gave up because I was shy. But the smoke was very heavy that the old lady sitting in front of him began coughing. Eventually, the old lady bad cough helped me make up my mind. She approached the young man and said, “Excuse me, would you mind stopping smoking? There are so many passenger on the bus, and they can’t stand it.” Hear this, the young man felt embarrassing and stopped smoking. I praised by the people on the bus. What happy I was!
Last year I went to the seaside to spend my summer holiday with my family. We stay there for about two weeks. The weather was much hot than that in my hometown, and I got used to it. Every morning, I got up early and went for a breakfast ahead of time. Then I went the beach and talked with John, that was my new friend and I came across her in my first morning there. John was warm-hearted and he seemed to be very familiarly with the seaside village. Soon we became very good friend. We have kept write to each other ever since then.

Last week I went to a movie, which was very moved. It was a sadly movie about a mother and her son. When the boy was little, his mother was very poor that she had to send him to a rich person whom had no children. The boy receives a very good education and twenty year later he became a doctor. In the hospital, he had a patient. She was an old lady. He did not care too much about her, for she could hardly pay for the medical care. Last week, we watched an excited basketball match in our school. It is between Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. During a match,the players from all teams played very hard. Grade 2 was a stronger team. However, for our surprise, Grade 1 won at last. The player jumped and hugged to celebrate their success. Just then, the players from the other team that approached and said “Congratulations!” to them.
They wore smiles on faces and you couldn’t tell from their expressions that they had lost the match. We were touching by the scene and felt what important a role sport plays in daily life.

Sometimes 1 feel that living in a city makes people lonely than before. People always feel strangers cannot trusted. They think this is not normal to start talking to anyone or even smile at anyone. I desire to change that. Last week, while I was skate, a man ran by, smiling at me. He said something to me about doing sports or he hoped to be able to finishing his run. I smiled back and said that he certain would. And then a family cycles by when I was in the park. One of the girl waved at me with a big smile, and I waved back enthusiastically. I do believe such small gestures can change into the world we live in.

Last summer I go to America and studied at a language school. I had many wonderful experience, but I also had a sad one. One day, the school held a party, where I invited to talk about Tianjin. After which they asked me a lot of things about China. But I couldn’t explain it in English Clearly. I felt sadly. I learnt a lesson from this experience. I have already studied English for eight years, but I can’t use it very good. I must work hard to improve my speaking English so that I will not be able to communicate freely with foreigners. I hope I can be a bridge between China and others countries in the future.
