1 . With a pleasant-evening wind and the view of the setting sun, a night tour of parks offers people a special experience. Let’s discover the beauty of a summer night in Beijing.
Yuyuantan Park is famous for a huge outdoor light and shadow (阴影) art space of 19,000 square meters, and as night falls, 15 immersive scenes (沉浸式场景) there create a fantastic planet of light.
Starting from June 8th, Jingxinzhai in Beihai Park opens for an immersive nighttime cultural experience, where visitors can enjoy the beautiful and attractive royal (皇家的) garden, hear the sounds of the ancient zither (guzheng) and watch Kunqu Opera performances while taking in Jiangnan (areas south of the Yangtze River) umbrella dances.
Additionally, the Jingshan Park Summer Cultural Season shows the impressive view of the central line of Beijing and highlights the features of Beijing. It is worth mentioning that the park organizes evening tours, puts on an amazing light and shadow performance, and redesigns its ancient red walls and traditional Beijing architecture (建筑).
Based on its rich garden resources and exhibitions featuring old objects in the Garden Museum, every Wednesday the Museum of Chinese Gardens and Landscape Architecture holds a “Meet the Future Speechmakers” overnight event.
The popular “Xiangshan Midsummer Night” event has reopened. Under the guidance of the park’s science lecturers, visitors have the opportunities to listen to the lively insects singing in the mountains at night and observe the entire process of the insects coming out of eggs.
This summer, the closing time for Jingshan Park, Beihai Park and Zhongshan Park is 21:00, while the closing time for Zizhuyuan Park is 22:00. The closing time for Yuyuantan Park is 22:30.

2 . Liu Lingli has been a teacher for hearing-damaged children for 33 years. Thanks to her help and commitment, more than 20 of the over 80 students she has taught have received higher education.
Liu’s first communication with disabled people was with one of her neighbors, Mrs. Wang. “Even as a child, I was moved by her finger movement, and thought it would be great if she could speak,” Liu said. After graduation, she became a teacher of special education, and taught Chinese to first graders.
She remembers clearly that there were 14 students in her class, from 6 to 12years old, with several of them being intellectually (智力上地) challenged. “Facing the special children, I was at a loss and thought about quitting,” she said. She then thought about her neighbor Mrs. Wang and the pain on her face when she could not make people understand what she was trying to say. That made her determined to go after “special education”.
Although she was only 18 at the time, she treated the students as her children, and practiced sign language in front of the mirror for one to two hours every day till she could show it successfully. With great care and patience, she also taught the students how to wash their faces and clothes, and make everything neat and tidy, becoming the “mother” of the students.
“If the children receive early training and treatment, they could probably speak and thus have a better future,” she said. To help her students speak, she put her lips (嘴唇) against their hands to let them feel the movement of the lips and the running of the air, while allowing the students to put their hands around her neck and on her nose so they could learn how the voice was made.
Apart from teaching her class together, she also has one-on-one classes with each student for 20 minutes every day. As a result, she usually has a painful throat at the end of the day.
With Liu’s tireless efforts, her students show great improvement. “Whenever they managed to say ‘mom’ or ‘dad’ for the first time, I felt it was the sweetest sound in the world,” she said.

3 . In a recent interview with the CEO of Norges Bank Investment Management, Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, said artificial intelligence (AI) (人工智能) may become smarter than any human by the end of next year.
It is true that AI achievements over the past 18 months, including video generation tools and chat robots, have made the development of AI faster. The Financial Times reported that Musk actually announced last year that humans would “fully” achieve general artificial intelligence by 2029. Musk has long been supportive of AI development, believing it is so powerful that it can beat the most capable human in any field.
Despite its rapid development, AI needs policy, resources and technological support. Yet its use in many fields now does not have this kind of support. Cooperation (合作) among countries is also needed for AI development, but current international cooperation depends on many national causes, blocking the smooth development of AI. At the same time, AI development is also limited by some cultural causes, such as ChatGPT’s answers being more in line with the Western environment, which means the development of AI with a single national power may increase the imbalance of global AI development. All these call for exact connection between capital and the market, and a full range of international cooperation for AI development.
The fast development of AI in recent years has reduced production costs and improved production efficiency (效率), opening the door to new business forms in various areas. Despite bringing in efficiency, the use of artificial intelligence is also filled with risks. The technology continues to increase the difficulty in dealing with the problems concerning various laws, leading to calls for the sound law system applicable to this new technology.
According to experts, the power used by human brains is much lower than the power lost to artificial intelligence operation, and there is still a gap between the levels of artificial intelligence and human intelligence. However, from a long-term viewpoint, they believe that artificial intelligence, which now has many shortcomings compared with the human brain, may eventually better human intelligence supported by algorithms (算法) and data, depending on how some software develops.
The time of artificial intelligence is a time of risks and opportunities, and the uncertainty brought by this technology to human society may be far greater than the certainty.

A.Weaknesses. | B.Mistakes. | C.Benefits. | D.Qualities. |
A.Surprised. | B.Supportive. | C.Worried. | D.Frightened. |
A.We should call on people to stop using AI. |
B.There are many possibilities for the development of AI. |
C.The opinion of Elon Musk is the same as most people’s ideas. |
D.Many countries have caught the opportunity to buy AI chat robots. |
