1 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Summer was coming to an end and there was a bit of Autumn in the air. The temperatures were getting cooler and cooler, the air was turning drier, and I could already see the first yellow and red leaves on the trees. It’s my favorite season. The weather was neither too hot nor too cold, which made people feel very comfortable. You could see fruit everywhere. Therefore, I spent as much time as possible in the wild enjoying the beauty of nature.

One day’, I had just finished taking my dogs for their morning walk when I noticed something. There was a young maple tree growing in my hallway. It was growing out of a tiny pile of earth on the porch (门廊) . Its bottom hadn’t even turned to wood yet, but it had three lovely red leaves growing out of it.

I smiled at this strong little tree getting so much growth and life out of so little soil. I knew, however, that it couldn’t grow much larger where it was. I bent (弯腰) down and gently took it out of the earth. I took it inside to show my daughter and have her take a picture of it. Then I walked with it out to the edge of the woods around the grass land behind my house.

Walking into the forest, I had a wonderful feeling. Nature can teach us so much about life. There are so many wonders, growth, and beauty in it. You can’t be out in it for long without being filled with wonder and respect.

I also took a moment to look at all the life around me. There were trees, bushes, weeds, flowers, butterflies, bees, spiders, and birds all’ so full of life. And I felt so happy that my behavior, however small, was helping do good to nature.

Dora is a seven-year-old girl. One day, when she visited her friend Alice, she saw a beautiful bird in a cage on the balcony of the house. Alice told her it was her new pet. “How beautiful it is!” Dora said. “I also want to have such a bird as my pet.”

That day when Dora returned home, she told her mother about Alice’s bird. Then she asked, “Mom, can I also get a bird?” “Of course, you can,” her mother replied. “But you need to wait because I’ve no time to go to a pet store these days.” Dora agreed. One day, when Dora was back home from school, she saw a cage in the living room. In the cage was a beautiful blue bird. Her mother was standing next to the cage, smiling. “Oh, a bird!” Dora shouted happily. She ran to it and looked at it happily. “It’s a birthday gift for you,” her mother said. “Thank you, Mom. I love it so much!” Dora shouted excitedly.

The following day, Dora invited her friends to come over to see her bird. All of her friends said it was a really beautiful bird and Dora was very glad to hear that. She and her friends played with the bird for a long time that day. Her friends all wished they could have such a bird as their pet.

Sadly, a few weeks later, Dora became sick. The doctor told her parents that she got the flu and had to stay at home. In order not to make her friends sick, her parents asked her friends not to come to play with her. Dora felt very sad. How she wished her friends would come and visit her! But she knew her parents were right. She’d better stay alone. Since Dora had no one to play with, she could only play with her bird. However, she felt that her bird didn’t seem to be happy either.

Paragraph 1:

Dora watched her bird in silence.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者有注意力不集中的问题,但是他的老师史密斯女士没有区别对待他,当他完成论文后史密斯女士给了他鼓励的故事。

7 . At thirteen, I was diagnosed (诊断) with kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me. When everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks, I could not.

In my first literature class, Mrs. Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it, all within 45 minutes. I raised my hand right away and said, “Mrs. Smith, you see, the doctor said I have attention problems. I might not be able to do it.”

She glanced down at me through her glasses, “You are not different from your classmates, young man.” I tried, but I didn’t finish the reading when the bell rang. I had to take it home.

In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me. It was about a blind person, Louis Braile. He lived in a time when the blind couldn’t get much education. But Louis didn’t give up. Instead, he invented a reading system of raised dots (点), which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.

Wasn’t I the “blind” in my class, being made to learn like the “sighted” students? My thoughts spilled out and my pen started to dance. I completed the task within 40 minutes. Indeed, I was not different from others; I just needed a quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problem, why should I ever give up?

I didn’t expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs. Smith, so it was quite a surprise when it came back to me the next day—with an “A” on it. At the bottom of the paper were these words, “See what you can do when you keep trying?”

1. What problem did the author meet when he was in class?
A.He didn’t like the teacher.B.He was not fond of literature.
C.The classroom was too noisy.D.He couldn’t focus his attention in class.
2. What can we learn about Louis Braile from the passage?
A.He managed to cure his blindness.
B.He got a good education at school.
C.He made an invention which helped the blind.
D.He couldn’t see and read for the whole life.
3. What’s Mrs. Smith’s attitude to the author in the classroom?
A.She encouraged him.B.She looked down on him.
C.She hurt him.D.She was angry with him.
4. Which of the following statements is TRUE?
A.The author couldn’t read.B.The author overcame his difficulty.
C.The author gave up finally.D.The author got a low grade.
5. What can we learn from the passage?
A.How to be a great teacher.B.Keep trying, and you can do it.
C.What should you do as a blind.D.Ways to overcome attention disorder.

8 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

In a small town, there was a community talent show held every year in the local park. The event was a highlight for many, with performances from various local talents. Among the audience was a woman named Emily, a kind-hearted local librarian, along with her 12-year-old daughter Anna. Both of their eyes were filled with excitement.

As the show began, Emily and her daughter watched a young girl in amazement, about eight, confidently sing a song. Her voice was surprisingly powerful for her small body. Then a group of teenagers followed. Their hip-hop dance routine was full of energy, leading to cheers from the crowd. There was even an elderly gentleman who performed a series of magic tricks. However, as the sun began to set, many in the audience grew tired and the applause (掌声) after each act became less enthusiastic (热情的).

Then came the turn of a young boy, around ten years old, nervously holding his violin. As he started playing, it was clear that he was a beginner. His notes were shaky and he missed a few beats. The audience, already tired, responded with only a little polite applause. Emily noticed the boy’s frustrated face as he finished his performance.

It was at this moment that Emily recalled a powerful memory from her own childhood—the time when she had stood on a similar stage, her voice trembling (颤抖) through a song. But the kindness she had received from a stranger in the audience pushed her to carry on. Drawing from the lesson she had learned from the past experience, Emily stood up, clapping loudly and cheering for the boy. “Great job! Keep practicing, and you’re doing wonderfully!”she called out. Her enthusiasm inspired other members of the audience to join in the applause, their clap growing louder and more sincere.

文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了作者陪着女儿逐渐掌握开车技巧,驾驶课程拉近了母女距离的故事

10 . It was between Covid lockdowns in 2020. My daughter was struggling to care about online schooling. As a distraction, I suggested a driving lesson in my old car. She had her L-plates (临时驾驶许可证) but was unwilling at first because she has never been a fan of not being able to master something quickly.

Teaching a child to drive requires patience and a calm voice. After a week of car park driving, I told her to hit the road. During the second week of driving lessons, she mastered turning and finally remembered to take the handbrake (手刹) off before speeding up. By the third week, her fear had gone. She even wanted the radio on while driving. I told her she had to reach 10 hours without incident and then she could listen to my choice of music.

Each day, we’d drive for hours. It reminded me of all those trips when she was in the passenger seat and conversation would flow. Sitting side by side, she’d tell me many things. Now it was my turn to talk.

For the past year, we’d lived through hundreds of days of restrictions. With my daughter learning to drive came laughter. The more she drove, the more she loved to drive. In all those hours of watching my daughter learn something, and revel in it, I’d handed her the reins (控制权).

My daughter has booked her driving test. I’ll miss the hours we’ve spent, sitting side by side, learning something new about each other.

1. Why was the daughter unwilling to drive at first?
A.She felt driving was unsafe.
B.She disliked the slow leaning process.
C.She wanted to spend more time reading.
D.She had fallen behind with her schooling.
2. When could the daughter listen to the radio while driving?

B.Until she could make turns while driving.
C.Until she could drive for 10 hours without any difficulties.
D.Until she could take the handbrake off before speeding up.
3. What does the underlined words “revel in” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Take part in.B.Take pleasure in.
C.Believe in.D.Give in.
4. Which would be the best title for this text?
