In order to know a foreign language thoroughly(完全地), four things are necessary. First, we must understand the language when we hear it spoken. Secondly, we must be able to speak it ourselves, correctly with confidence(自信) and without hesitation(犹豫). Thirdly, we must be able to write it. Finally, we must be able to make sentences that are correct in grammar.
There is no short way to succeed in language learning. A good memory(记忆) is a great help, but it is not enough only to memorize the rules from a grammar book. It is no much use learning by heart long lists(一览表) of words and their meanings, studying the dictionary and so on. We must learn by using the language. If we are pleased with a few rules we have memorized, we are not really learning the language. We must "Learn through use". Practice is important. It’s said that failure is the best teacher, but do you want to fail? Your answer must be no.     1

Researchers at the University of Arizona, US found that being wrong 15 percent of the time is the secret to learning new things.     2     In their experiments, they taught computers to do simple tasks, such as picking an odd or even number (奇数或偶数). They found that when the error rate (错误率) was 15 percent, the computers learned faster.

In education, teachers think students learn better when they are challenged to learn something outside of their knowledge.     3     But if they are too easy, students will not pick up anything useful.

However, the “sweet spot (有效点)” is unknown. This experiment found that the answer is 15 percent. Students don’t have to be sad if they aren’t 100-percent right all the time.

If failure is normal, then how do we learn from it and succeed? Another study by Northwestern University, US, can tell us.

You’ve probably heard the saying “    4    ” However, the study found that persistence (坚持) only works if you learn from your failures. The idea is to work smart, not hard.

5     The faster you fail, the better your chances of success. But the more time you take between tries, the more likely you are to fail again.

A.Actions speak louder than voice.
B.If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
C.Hard tasks will cause students to give up easily.
D.The time taken between different tries also matters.
E.They carried out some experiments to support the finding.
F.However, some studies have shown that failure is not a bad thing.
