文章大意:本文介绍了“在两周内不使用手机”的一项挑战。

1 . A magazine started a challenge (挑战): “Can you live without your phone for two weeks?” Three students took part in it. Can they make it?

Susie, 13

I spent 3 hours every day using WeChat to talk with my friends before the challenge. I also watched online videos on it. It’s been a week since the start of the challenge and I haven’t talked to my friends on the phone. But there are two good things: I’ve already read two books. And I’ve spent more time with my family!

Mark, 13

I wanted to show my parents that it would not be a problem for me to forget about my phone for two weeks. Well, it wasn’t a piece of cake! I did almost everything while listening to music on my phone, such as doing homework, practicing football, studying, and going to school. Now it’s impossible. I feel like I’m going crazy without my phone, so I will give up.

Maria, 14

I got my phone when I was 12 years old. I do lots of things with it, such as playing games, listening to music and taking pictures. I also talk to my friends about it. 文章大意:本文介绍夜间使用手机如何影响睡眠,并就如何睡个好觉给出几点建议。

2 . Do you often play with your phone before bedtime? Do you like playing games with your friends on the Internet? According to a study, it will be difficult for us to sleep well when we look at the screens (屏幕) at night. In the evening, our bodies make melatonin (褪黑素). It can help us feel sleepy and relaxed. And it’s an important part of our sleep cycle (周期). However, our electronic screens stop that cycle from working normally.

Why do we say that? That is because phones, computers and TVs can make blue light. The blue light stops our bodies from making melatonin. Even just a little bit of blue light can have an effect (影响). Eight minutes of blue light can keep your brain “awake” for another hour. Your brain won’t have a good rest.

It’s even worse (更差) if you play an exciting game before bed. Games make our hearts beat faster and so we have a harder time falling asleep (入睡). Even we fall asleep, we don’t get as much “deep sleep” as we need.

●Sleep is so important. How do we get a good sleep? Here are five tips for you:

●Take a warm shower or read a book.

●Sleep in a dark, quiet room that is not too warm or too cold.

●Count sheep. It’s the oldest way, but it really works!

●Don’t eat a big meal or have coffee. Instead, drink milk.

●Don’t run around or exercise three hours before bedtime.

1. What can we learn about melatonin?
A.It helps us feel sleepy and relaxed.B.Too much of it makes us sleep badly.
C.It makes us feel hungry and tired.D.It stops our sleep cycle from working well.
2. How do phones and computers make it hard for us to sleep?
A.They cannot make us feel relaxed.
B.They can help us make more dreams.
C.They help our bodies make more melatonin.
D.Our body can’t make melatonin with the blue light.
3. What does “awake” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Dreaming a lot.B.Not being asleep.C.Falling asleep.D.Having a rest.
4. What should you do before bedtime if you want to get a good night’s sleep?
A.Drinking coffee with milk.B.Running from 7 p. m. to 10 p. m.
C.Taking a cold shower.D.Keeping your bedroom dark.
5. What’s the text mainly about?
A.What we should do before bed.
B.Why people should have enough sleep.
C.How phones affect (影响) sleep and how to have a good sleep.
D.Why melatonin is an important part of our sleep cycle.
