These days, short videos and live streaming (网络直播) are becoming more and more popular online. More and more people make and share videos on popular apps like Douyin and Kuaishou to show parts of their lives.
Using live streaming is popular among the people aged 18 to 35. Even the teachers give lessons by live streaming. People who watch short videos or live streaming can communicate directly with the hosts by buying virtual (虚拟的) gifts such as flowers, toys and cars for them online.
What’s more, live streaming allows users to communicate with strangers and express (表达) themselves. A 19-year-old college student called Nic Li says she spends three to four hours each week talking and singing with people through one app called Ingkee. “Sometimes I feel lonely and want to talk to people,” she says, “I feel nice when people come to talk with me.”
However, as there are more than 80 apps for short videos and live streaming in China, the Internet regulator (监管机构) is not able to monitor (监管) them all the time, which may lead to a lot of problems. So people should be careful about the two sides of short videos and live streaming when using these apps.

5. What does the writer mainly want to tell us in the last paragraph?
It is time for Mrs. Brown’ s class. Mrs. Brown asks her students a question: Do smartphones bring us closer together or drive (迫使) us further apart? The students show great interest in the discussion.
David:
I think smartphones drive us further apart. When you sit in a busy restaurant, watch the guests waiting for their meals.
Alice:
In my opinion, smartphones bring us closer together. When my family moved to Qingdao last year, I had to leave my friends in Nanjing. But smartphones help us keep in touch ( 保持联系).
James:
It depends. Smartphones can bring us closer to people living far.
A.We also need eye contact (眼神交流) and face-to-face talks. |
B.Let’s listen to what they are saying. |
C.We need to travel far to meet a friend. |

4 . Should kids be allowed to use mobile phones in school? There has been a lot of discussion about it. Without question, kids do not need mobile phones in school. Some people may feel that kids need phones for safety reasons; however, it’s not good or necessary for them to use mobile phones at school.
Firstly, there are phones in most modern classrooms nowadays. If kids need to call their parents or whatever, they can use one of the phones in the school. There is really no reason for students to have a phone with them.
Besides, mobile phones can be a big distraction (干扰) during the school day. If kids bring their phones to class and start to use them, they won’t pay much attention (注意力) to their schoolwork. Because there are too many games and apps on phones. They can pull kids’ attention away from things they should do at school. After all, there have been many other things that distract kids away from their lessons.
What’s worse, mobile phones can also be another way that kids bully (欺凌) each other. In some ways, kids are mean to each other in school. Phones would just be another way for mean-spirited kids to hurt others. Unluckily, a few kids always go out of their way to give others a hard time. And if mobile phones are allowed in school, it will give them one more tool to hurt others.
In a word, I cannot think of any good reasons why kids need to have mobile phones at school. Phones would just be a distraction and could lead to more bullying in school.

6 . Do you know which social app Chinese young people use a lot now? “Short videos” are certainly the most popular. Some users use Tik Tok and Kuaishou. They think it is fun to share short videos about their lives, while others have other purposes (目的) as well.
As some videos are about the latest (最新的) news, a group of users depend on them to get information. To some other users, they have a different purpose. “Because I can’t spend many hours watching a whole video and I’m not a very patient person. I don’t like waiting for a program to end. I like to watch short videos of wonderful parts in program.” said Wang Zhihao.
However, some young Chinese feel bored with some short videos. “Killing time is the main reason for me to watch the short videos, but many are almost the same, so I think it is a waste of time. What’s more, I really don’t like the videos because they show odd even dangerous things,” said Wen Nan, another college student.
Recently, something else has happened. Some videos are telling people what products (产品) are good for you until you buy them. But after they buy the products, they may feel sorry soon. So they should think twice. Some short videos even sell bad products, but these sellers won’t let you get your money back.
I enjoy watching short videos and I often spend some time on them after class, which makes my parents worried. Recently I can’t focus on (专注于) my study.

Andyfan 1-17-2005 2: 45 p. m. | Some people say Jacky is the best Chinese singer. I don’t think so! Andy is the best. I went to his concert last year. It was so hard to believe, I almost cried! OK, I did cry, but that’s because Andy is so handsome! |
1000 reasons 1-17-2005 4:38 p. m. | I don’t agree at all. Andy sounds like every other singer. His voice is nothing special. On the other hand, Jacky’s voice is different from others, and his songs are so romantic! |
