文章大意:本文主要介绍了塑料垃圾的危害以及科学家们为减轻塑料污染,想出了用电脑帮助分类回收塑料垃圾的方法。
1 .
recycle

Plastic (塑料) is an important part of our daily lives. It is very cheap, strong and long-lasting. However, we use a lot of it but recycle little. There are about 6.3 billion tons of plastic waste in total on the earth. 80% of the rubbish in the sea is plastic. 267 kinds of animals around the world are harmed by plastic. Plastic pollution is serious.

Recycling plastic can be tough because it is difficult to separate all the different kinds of plastic simply by looking. Scientists wanted to find a way to solve it so that they could recycle more plastic and produce better products. To do this, they tried to see if computers with cameras could correctly separate up to 12 kinds of plastic.

Scientists placed the 12 kinds of plastic onto a conveyor belt (传送带). It then moved them under a special camera. This camera catches much more information than the human eyes can see! It could get different light according to the different kinds of plastic. In this way, the camera recorded the feature (特点) of the plastic. Next, the camera sent the information to a computer. Finally, the computer’s learning was put to the test! Scientists placed three kinds of unknown plastic onto the conveyor belt to see if the computer could tell them by comparing them. Luckily, the computer correctly separated them.

The test shows that this technology can help us to recycle more plastic. The results can be used in our life successfully. Scientists are now trying to cut down the information processing (处理) needed. This means that the computer can separate plastic quickly and process more each day. This is an exciting step towards cutting down the plastic waste that we are creating.

What will the world of the next generation (一代) look like? Many people today are confident that technology is going to help solve some of the most challenging problems we have on Earth today.    1     But it may also create new ones. No technology is perfect.

When we dream about the future, many of us like to think that we will be able to fly to the sky in our own personal flying car. The advantages are clear. This technology would allow total freedom of movement. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads.     2     If the cars become popular, it is likely to cause a very heavy traffic. And what will happen if the cars break down?

3D printing is another new technology with exciting possibilities for the future. 3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and man-made body parts, such as ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people.     3

Finally, imagine having your own Iron Man suit. Several companies are trying to build a practical robot suit. This is an electronic suit with robot arms and legs which follows the wearer’s movements. It allows you to lift heavy objects and walk long distances (距离).     4     However, one disadvantage at the moment is cost. Even a simple robot suit can cost hundreds of thousands of pounds.

5     One day, we will be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve before all of this is possible, we can certainly dream of a world where technology makes life easier and safer.

A.New technology may solve old problems.
B.These are problems we must expect in the future.
C.Looking ahead, it is not difficult to imagine a future.
D.And it even might help people walk again after disease (疾病).
E.The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.
F.An advantage of 3D printing is that you can make products anywhere.
G.However, some people believe there will be problems with traffic control.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了科学家正尝试使用激光技术来改变雷击的路径,以便保护更大的区域范围。

5 . Scientists in Switzerland have used lasers (激光) to change the path (路线) of a lightning (闪电) strike (攻击). The experiment suggests that in the future, lasers might be useful for protecting large buildings from lightning.

Lightning can be very powerful and cause serious problems on the ground. Lightning strike can cause fires, destroy buildings, and even kill people. The damage (损害) from lightning costs billions of dollars every year. In the US, lightning strikes killed close to 450 people between 2006 and 2021.

Scientists have been trying to find a way to protect buildings from lightning for a long time. Now the best way is by putting metal rods (竿) on the buildings. These rods are connected to the ground. The lightning is attracted (吸引) to the rods, which safely guide the electricity into the ground. But lightning rods can only protect a small area. Some buildings—such as airports are so large that it’s difficult to protect the whole building using lightning rods.

Another idea is to use lasers to guide lightning. Scientists had been working on the idea for over 20 years. Using a powerful laser that can fire about 1,000 times a second, scientists in Switzerland were able to guide lightning strikes for 164 feet. The heat from the laser creates a path of air that is less thick than the air around it. The path also has a special charge (电荷). The lightning can follow this path almost as if it were a lightning rod. Scientist Matteo Clerici said, “The fact that we managed to do it in an outdoor environment is a very big step.”

But the laser still didn’t guide the lightning as far as the scientists would like. Besides, the laser is also very expensive. Scientists say it cost about $2 billion. It will probably take 10 or more years before a laser like this is truly able to protect large buildings.

1. What did the scientists use the laser for?
A.Changing the path of lightning.B.Protecting the lightning rod.
C.Reducing the heat of lightning.D.Slowing down the speed of lightning.
2. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The use of the laser.B.The cost of the laser.
C.The power of lightning.D.The way to guide lightning.
3. What is the disadvantage (缺点) of lightning rods?
A.Their material is expensive.B.They have short service life.
C.Their speed of guiding electricity is low.D.It’s not easy for them to protect large areas.
4. What can we infer (推断) from the last paragraph?
A.The laser works better in a lab.
B.The technology has yet to be perfected.
C.The scientists think poorly of the lightning rod.
D.The research result will soon do good to humans.
5. What can be the best title for the text?
A.Use Lasers to Stop Lightning.B.Lightning Rods Are Out of Date.
C.Guide Lightning With a Laser.D.Lightning Can Be Used to Serve People.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了哪些工作不会被AI取代。

7 . Some experts say that robots will take away human jobs with the rapid development of AI. A March 2023 report from Goldman Sachs showed that AI could do a quarter of the work done by humans. Across the European Union and the US, the report further notes that 300 million jobs could be lost to automation (自动化).

Thankfully, it’s not all bad news. The experts also add that there are still things AI cannot do. These tasks have clear human qualities, like emotional intelligence and creative thinking.

“I think there are generally three kinds of jobs that are going to be safe,” says Martin Ford, writer of Rule of the Robots: How Artificial Intelligence Will Transform Everything. “The first would be jobs that are creative enough to come up with new ideas and build something new.”

The second is jobs that require complicated (复杂的) interpersonal relationships. Ford points to nurses, businessmen and reporters. “These are jobs,” he says, “where you need a very deep understanding of people. I think it’ll be a long time before AI has the ability to interact (交流) in the kinds of ways that really build relationships.”

“The third safe one,” says Ford, “is jobs that really require lots of mobility (机动性) and dexterity (灵活性) and problem-solving ability in unpredictable environments. These are the kinds of jobs where you’re dealing with a new situation all the time, so they are probably the hardest of anything to automate.”

“It’s important to note,” says Ford, “that a higher education or a high-paying position is not a protection against AI takeover. In short, looking for roles in changing environments that include unpredictable tasks is a good way to stop jobs from being taken by AI. At least, for a while.”

1. According to the Goldman Sachs, what percentage of jobs done by humans will AI do?
A.25B.75C.50
2. What does the underlined phrase “These tasks” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.The jobs AI cannot do.B.Some pieces of bad news.C.The jobs taken by AI.
3. Which of the following is a good way to stop human jobs from being replaced by AI?
A.Getting a higher education.
B.Repeating a task many times.
C.Dealing with different tasks well.
4. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to Martin Ford?
A.AI can have a deep understanding of humans.
B.Being a businessman is one of the hardest jobs.
C.Jobs with creative thinking are less at risk of being replaced.
5. What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Some good ways to get jobs.
B.The jobs that won’t be taken by AI.
C.Different opinions about jobs.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了深圳市燕岗中学的一群青少年如何为内置AI系统的鱼灯笼带来了生命的事情。

8 .

On a video online, fish-shaped lanterns move in the air as if they are swimming in the water. A group of teenagers in Shenzhen Yangang Middle School brought life to the fish lanterns with built-in AI system.

“The fish-lantern dance is a long-standing tradition in Shenzhen. Dancers carry lanterns and try to make them move like real fish in their performance, and this calls for lots of practice,” says Jiang Jiahan, one of the lantern’s inventors. So his team wants to lower the threshold with an AI-driven fish lantern that can move on its own, so that more people can take part in the traditional performance art.

Tan Wenbo, another inventor, explains that a sensor (传感器) on the head of a lantern will identify (识别) different pictures on the screen and give the result to a circuit board (电路板). The board, connected with two small motors (发动机) on the lantern’s head and tail, will drive the paper fish to perform different moves. According to Jiang, the rules of the moves follow the habits of real fish. “If a fish sees its food, it may dance more often in excitement. If it finds a good place to hide among, it feels relaxed and will move lower.”

“The old lantern model was made of card paper, but it weighed too much,” Jiang says. Then he made the latest lanterns with xuan paper (a classic paper used for Chinese painting) and iron wiring (接线).

Jiang says this experience makes him want to learn more about AI in the future. So does Tan.

1. Paragraph 1 mentions the ________ of inventing the AI-fish lanterns.
A.timeB.teamC.processD.cost
2. The underlined words “lower the threshold” in Paragraph 2 mean “make it easier ________”.
A.to perform the fish-lantern danceB.to learn about the lantern history
C.to study the habits of real fishD.to build the AI system

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍BMI技术应用于帮助瘫痪患者自己喝水,文章也介绍了该技术的优势以及该技术仍在开发阶段。

10 . It might sound like magic, but in February, a paralyzed (瘫痪的) patient was able to drink water on his own by controlling a special glove with his brain. The glove then acted as his hand. This was a success in BMI technology made by a team of Chinese scientists and doctors. BMI means creating a connection between the human brain and external devices (外部设备), making communication between the brain and computers. For paralyzed people, BMI can allow them to move and do simple things by themselves.

On Oct 24, 2023, the team put a BMI chip (芯片) in the patient’s head. It can receive neural signals (神经信号) from the brain.

After three months of home training, the patient can now use his brain signals to control a glove powered by air pressure. This helps him do things like drinking water on his own.

BMI technology usually means putting chips directly onto the patient’s brain. However, only a tiny cut is made on the patient’s head to make sure the patient’s brain is not harmed. It also uses a wireless power supply (无线电源), so the device doesn’t need a battery.

Li Yuanning from Shanghai Tech University told CCTV News that BMI is now mainly used in the medical field. It can help to improve the lives of people with brain-related problems or speech problems. In the future, if will be used in other fields.

In China, BMI technology is still in the early period of research, with no products on the market yet. Some people are worried that tests may influence patients’ independence and even who they are. Some people are worried whether the patient has a clear understanding of what is going on when they agree to take part in the test.

1. According to the passage, BMI is ______.
A.a communication between the paralyzed patient and his brain
B.a special glove acting as a hand
C.a connection between the human brain and external devices
2. What does “It” in Paragraph 2 refer to (指的是)?
A.The BMI chip.B.The team.C.The patient’s head.
3. Which of the following is TRUE?
A.BMI can help paralyzed people do everything freely.
B.BMI can not only be used in medical field, but also in other fields.
C.You can buy BMI products on the markets now.
4. What’s the passage mainly talking about?
A.People make some progress in BMI technology.
B.BMI technology is popular now.
C.Many people are worried about BMI technology.
