I paid a visit     1     Cambridge last January. Though the trip took me 5 hours and it rained the whole day with strong winds, the town deserved a visit.

The bus started at 6:10 am. It stopped at 4 stops before we finally arrived,     2     wasted more time than we had expected.     3    (tire) with long time of sitting, one passenger stood up to relax his numb (麻木的) legs. The driver asked him to sit down but in vain. So he pulled up and said     4     (serious), "You either get off or sit down." To him,     5     (safe) was the first policy.

Cambridge consists of nearly thirty colleges. The     6     (old) part of the university was built in the 13th century     7     the newest was founded in the mid-1960s. The number of the students     8    (be) so great that many students live in lodgings（出租房）and move into college for their final year.

The heart of Cambridge has shops, pubs, and supermarkets, but most of it is university colleges, departments, libraries and other places for university staff and students. Students fill the shops, cafes, banks and churches,     9     (make) them as well part of the university.

With over 10,000 undergraduates and postgraduates, the town is a busy place indeed. Students here are not allowed     10     (keep) cars. If you happen to be walking in the street during a break, you'd better stop for a moment to avoid the sea of bicycles hurrying in all directions, which carry students from one college or a lecture room to another.

Walking is the UK's most popular sport. It has     1     interesting history. In April 1932, 400 people     2    (leave) Manchester and Sheffield in Northern England to walk across Kinder Scout in the Pennines. They fought     3     the fact that only rich people,     4    went there to kill birds, could visit this beautiful area. Because of the walk, National Parks in England and Wales finally began in 1949, as well as the Pennines Way, one of twenty long,     5    (wonder) paths.

You don't have to walk the whole way if you are on one of the long paths. And there     6     (be) a great number of shorter paths for you to choose. But there are a few basic     7    (rule) you should follow. Don't drop paper and plastic; close gates after you; keep dogs on lead(绳索) if there are farm animals in the area; stay on the path.

Also, remember that British weather can change very quickly,     8    (especial) in the hilly north and west of the country. If you are in Wales, Scotland     9     the north of England, carry plenty of food and water, as well as warm clothes. National Parks and footpaths are the best way     10    (enjoy).

Some theme parks are not only     1    (amuse) but also educational. Take the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC) in Hawaii for example. It not only shows visitors the Polynesian way of life but also     2     (protect) their skills and culture for the future. Polynesia is     3     name given to the many groups of small islands that are spread about the Pacific Ocean.

    4    (villager) from many island communities come to the Polynesian island villages     5    (show) visitors their styles of dress and different customs. You can learn how they make clothes from bark(树皮) and how they climb very tall trees with their bare feet or see     6     kinds of wedding ceremonies they have.

One of the     7    (important) skills for Polynesians is boat-building, which allows the islanders to explore all the islands in the Polynesian Triangle. We know that in their history they were sea travellers moving     8     island to island. My Winter Holiday Plan

Next week, I     1     (be) on my winter holiday. My whole family     2     (fly) to Beijing from Melbourne on Monday and arrive at 10:00 a.m.. After lunch, through the whole afternoon we     3     (visit) the Summer Palace. The next morning, we will visit the Palace Museum and we     4     (walk) and shopping along Wangfujing Street till the night. On Wednesday, we     5     (go) to visit the Great Wall. It will be a great experience for me to drive three hours among the mountains. Then we will go sightseeing in Shichahai and visit National Museum of China.On Friday, we     6     (make) a trip to Zhangjiakou and on Saturday morning, we’ll go back to Beijing. Most excitedly, we     7     (watch) Beijing Opera at the Mei Lanfang Theatre in the whole evening. Then on Sunday morning, we     8     (have) to return to Melbourne. I think we might be very tired but it must be absolutely worthwhile.

Joe’s plane landed on time at Heathrow Airport. He had exactly one hour to get out of the airport and go across the centre of the airport and the centre of London to catch his train to Manchester. He hurried through the airport, and then raced     1     the taxi sign.

    2     (fortunate), at that moment, his luggage broke and dirty socks, shirts and underwear were all over the airport floor. Joe was so     3     (embarrass) that he quickly put everything back into his luggage.     4     (push) his way through the crowds of people, he finally made it to the taxi rank. He jumped into the nearest taxi, shouting, “Euston Station, quickly, please!” The taxi set off at such     5     high speed that Joe     6     (throw) backward,     7     made him hit his head against the glass. The taxi sped on and finally arrived in the city centre, and also the middle of a traffic jam! It would be quicker to walk there. Joe offered     8     (pay) the driver, got out of the taxi, and ran along the pavement and past all the shop     9     (window). At last, he could see the station opposite.

He     10     (reach) the station just as his train was leaving. He got on the train with seconds to spare. He sighed with relief — he would be home in time for Christmas.

I’m Richard,     1     exchange student from the UK. During the October holiday, my parents and I went to Xi’an     2     (see) the Terrocotta Army. The story of the Terrocotta Army is     3     (extreme) unbelievable. It’s     4     (amaze) that there are more than 8,000 statues, and no one     5     modern times knew about them until the 1970s.We also visited the Shaanxi History Museum, which     6     (know) as a “Chinese Treasure House.” Of course, the Xi’an City Wall and a few other famous sights also left us a deep     7     (impress).Though tired, we enjoyed     8     (us) during the trip. The trip is so wonderful     9     we’re looking forward to     10     (explore) other big cities in China.
