Our school was going to hold an art festival. Every class was actively preparing for it. However, our class didn’t know what to perform at first. After discussion, in the end we decided to sing the song “Ode(颂) to the Motherland” to show our love for our country.
We practiced hard together after school. After five times’ practice, some students still couldn’t remember the words. Then one classmate came up with an idea. He divided us into small groups. Then the person who could sing well taught the others. Slowly, it began to work. We were full of hope for the festival.
The day arrived. We had never took part in such activities before, so we were kind of nervous. Our teacher seemed to read our minds and he gave us some suggestions to make us feel relaxed. But when we stood in front of hundreds of people, we still felt nervous. We all tried to control ourselves because we were afraid of making mistakes.
When we started to sing, the leader looked at us with a smile. This made all of us no longer feel nervous. We succeeded in singing the song. As it was over, we got exciting cheers. Through this activity, I understood the importance of working together and I really loved it very much.

Talking to Solve Friendship Problems Sometimes our friends can do things that make us unhappy, and we might want to talk to them about them. But how can we make these talks easier? Here are some tips: It’s important to have good evidence (证据) that there is a problem. The evidence should be something that you both agree on. Once you have evidence, you can explain how it affects you. Describe problems with “I”. Saying “I feel hurt that you spend less time with me.” is less accusatory (责问的) than “You never spend time with me!” Staying calm during the talk is necessary. If you get angry, it might lead to a fight. You can tell your friend that this talk makes you feel a little nervous. In this way, you will show a more human side. Let go of being right. It’s important to listen to your friend’s opinion. Don’t just focus on proving yourself right. You can try to understand how he or she feels. Listen and plan. You can lower the chances of arguing by listening carefully to your friend. Many experts suggest planning what you want to say, so you can say it in a way that doesn’t create trouble. Be realistic (实事求是的). Remember that difficult problems can’t be solved in just one talk. Think about what is possible to achieve in one discussion. This will help you set realistic goals for what you can achieve. |

Limiting (限制) students’ mobile phone use at school Mobile phones have become an important part of our daily lives. However, to protect students’ eyesight, make sure they pay more attention to their studies, primary and middle schools will have more special rules to limit students’ mobile phone use at school. The Ministry of Education gave a notice that limits primary and middle school students’ carrying mobile phone use at school in January, 2021. If they still want to bring their phones into school for some reason, they must get their parents’ and teachers’ permission (许可). The purpose of this new rule is to help students pay more attention to study. According to a 2020 report by the China Internet Network Information Center, China had more than 175 million Internet users under the age of 18 in 2019, with 74 percent having their own mobile phones. This is worrying, because long-time use of mobile phones harms children’s health, according to the World Health Organization. Many schools have taken action to limit students’ phone use at school. Before the new rule, Chen, an English teacher in Foshan, noticed that many students brought their phones to school. Some even played games on them during class. Now the situation has improved since the notice was given in Chen’s school. |

When you’re worried or sad, it can be hard to know what to do at that moment. Having the goodies that relax you means you will have the tools to help yourself feel better.
What is self-care?
Self-care is taking care of your mental and physical health. Brushing your teeth is self-care. Going to bed is also an example of self-care.
Looking after yourself is important because it builds your self-confidence. Teacher Bec, says, “When you practice self-care, you’re looking after your own needs. This helps increase your confidence. Showing kindness to yourself helps you feel happier.”
What’s in a self-care kit?
A self-care kit is a collection of things that help you look after yourself. The most important thing is that your self-care kit is filled with what’s most helpful to you. Things in a self-care kit might include photos of the people and animals you love; a special treasure, toy or book; a favorite snack; something that smells or feels nice; positive messages from your friends or family; and a playlist (播放列表) of your favorite songs.
Make your own self-care kit
Think about what helps you feel calm, and happy when you’re feeling sad or worried. Keep those things in a little bag or box. Digital items, like a playlist, can be kept on the device (设备). Whenever you’re not feeling good, you can turn to your self-care kit and choose something from it to help you feel better. Over time you might change things in your kit, depending on what feels most useful to you.

How was your sleep last night? World Sleep Day fell on March 17 this year. How can we have healthy sleep? Take a look at these two tips.
◆Waking up naturallyWaking up to a ringing alarm is never fun. Studies showed that when you get “shocked” by the alarm, your breathing will go up from 16 to 24 breaths per minute. Your heart will have 10 more beats every minute. Your blood pressure will rise.
“This is a very unhappy way to start the day,” sleep scientist Whitney Roman told the online magazine Bustle. You’ll feel worse if you fall back to get a few more minutes of sleep. “This will mess up your body’s natural sleep-wake cycle,” said Roman.
So, what should we do? Try to choose an alarm with softer and lower sounds. Or leave part of the curtains (窗帘) open—the rising sun will wake you up.
◆Sleep early, get up earlySome young people may go to bed late and get up late, such as sleeping from 2 am to 10 am. They think as long as they have 8 hours of sleep, everything will be fine.
But in fact, our bodies can tell time. They use light and temperature to do so. If we wake up too late, our bodies might feel stuck between sleep and being awake. That’s why sometimes we feel even more tired after oversleeping.
1. When was World Sleep Day this year?2. What will happen to your heart if you are awoken by an alarm?
3. Which alarm should people choose?
4. Why do some young people go to bed late and get up late?
