Now, more and more information is shared by videos. Businessmen also take this chance to develop business. But choosing short videos or long videos is a question for them.

Some people think short videos can’t be better. Firstly, short videos can be made with less information in less time. Secondly, most people prefer short videos because short videos are easy to reach and understand. Finally, many apps support short video sharing. So it is easy to find an app to share a short video with others.

However, not all the people like short videos. They think if the time of a video is short, it will fail to pass on useful things. Besides, a short video cannot leave a deep impression (印象) on people, because it is too short to remember what it says.

Compared with short videos, long videos can give people a deep understanding with more information and longer time. At first, people will find shorter ones interesting, but they will be tired of these useless things quickly. Only the valuable things can make people spend more time and have longer interests.

In my opinion, both short videos and long ones have their own advantages and disadvantages. Video-makers can make use of them according to their own features (特点). For example, to create emotional (情感) experiences that people will remember and build a business brand, long videos will be a nice choice. To tell a story about your business or give suggestions on how to deal with a problem, the short ones will be better.

Huge beasts, one male and one female, protect the entrances to palaces, temples and other important buildings in China. These lion statues lie at the sides of the entrances to restaurants and shopping malls as well (the pair in the picture stand guard within the Forbidden City). They are also found in Chinese communities around the world. In Chinese culture, the lion is a symbol of strength and good luck and defends against something bad.

Whether made of stone or metal, these big and heavy statues are always used in pairs, one on each side of a door or gate. Looking out on the left (your right as you move towards the entrance) is the male lion, with his right front paw on a ball that stands for the world. On the other side, the female lion rests her left paw on a baby lion, standing for the raising of life. The two lions show us the Chinese idea of yin and yang: opposites that create one whole. In the mouths of some lion statues is a big pearl (珠状物), a symbol of wisdom and power. These statues are designed so that the pearl can move around but not be removed.

Historians believe lions were brought to China during the Han Dynasty (206 B.C.—220 A.D.), a time of increasing trade along the Silk Road. The lions were from Central Asia and were smaller than the more familiar African lion. Interestingly, in the West, these statues are called “fu dogs” . While in China, they’re never called like that. Here are some interpretations: some think the lions are like Chinese dogs, such as the shih tzu (狮子狗), chowchow and so on. Others say that “fu” sounds like the Chinese word for “success” and the word for “Buddha” .

1. People place the lion statues at the sides of the entrance because ________.
A.they are from the Forbidden City
B.they can fight against bad people
C.they stand for strength and good luck
2. Paragraph 2 is mainly about ________.

B.what the lion statues stand for
C.how much people like the lion statues
3. What is NOT true about the big pearl?
A.We can see it in all the mouths of lion statues.
B.The big pearl symbolizes wisdom and power.
C.The pearl can be moved around but not be removed.
4. The underlined words “interpretations” in Paragraph 3 mean ________.
A.agreements.B.explanationsC.translations
5. The passage was probably written by ________.
A.a person who likes animals very much
B.a foreigner who designs stone or metal lions
C.a researcher who is interested in historical treasures

【推荐3】Height is just one of the thousands of features your genes(基因)decide. In fact, because you have two parents, your genes provide you a height that usually lands somewhere between the height of each parent. If you`re your parents are tall, then maybe you will be tall, too, but if you have questions about how tall you're going to be, ask your doctor if he or she can help you find it.

But genes don't decide everything. For example, eating an unhealthy diet can keep you from growing to your full potential(潜力). Getting enough sleep and enough exercise will help you grow to the right height.

No doubt(怀疑)you're wondering how fast you should grow. It depends. There's no perfect or right answer. Kids grow about 2 inches(5 centimeters)a year between age 3 and the time when they start puberty(when your body starts changing and becoming more grown up).

Your doctor will know how your growth has been going over the years. 2 centimeters here and 2 inches there are not nearly as important as the height you're at now, how you've been growing up to this point, and what other changes your body may be going through.

Don't be scared if you seem to have grown a lot in a very short time. Everyone has a growth spurt(高峰) during puberty. The age for starting puberty is about 10 for girls and about 11 for boys. But it can be earlier or later—between 7 and 13 for girls and 9 and 15 for boys.

You'll usually begin to notice that you're growing faster about a year or so after your body starts to show the first changes of puberty.

1. If you want to know how fast and how tall you should grow, ______________.
A.you should have enough exerciseB.you can ask doctors for help

A.how good it is to be a doctorB.how much sleep we need
C.why genes can't decide everythingD.what healthy diet is
3. The underlined word "puberty" in the passage means ______________.
A.童年时期B.婴幼儿时期C.习惯养成期D.青春期
4. The passage is mainly about ______________.
A.how the genes work in your bodyB.when is the time you grow fast
C.why you look like your parentsD.how you grow to a certain height
5. Which is NOT mentioned in this passage?
A.Your height most probably depends on how high your parents are.
B.Girls' age for starting puberty is usually earlier than that for boys.
C.How your body changes during puberty.
D.You may be scared sometimes when you grow too fast.
