Japan is one of the cleanest countries in the world. What are its secrets?
In Japan, people have to pay for their garbage. If they have a lot, or their garbage is difficult to treat, they have to pay more. They also have to pay for things they no longer need, like old TVs and fridges. This makes people think before they throw away.
There are few garbage cans in Japanese streets. People take their garbage home and sort through it carefully. They also have different ways of treating different kinds of garbage. People turn old chopsticks into paper. They burn some garbage to make fertilizer(肥料). People even use garbage to make more land area.
Japan has set a good example to the rest of the world. If people in every country did the same, we would be able to do something about our environmental problem.
What can we do to help the environment? Here are some ideas.
Reduce!
Check it out. Buy products with less packaging (包装).
Buy less and create less garbage. We shouldn’t buy things we don’t need.
Reuse!
Be creative and make use of garbage. For example, you can make a photo frame(边框) out of buttons, and other small pieces of garbage.
Recycle!
Ask your family and friends to use recycled products.
Be helpful. Is there a recycling center near your home? If so, ask your family and neighbors to recycle.

【推荐2】The name of our galaxy, the Milky Way, comes from its appearance. It’s a milky white band of glowing light that spreads across the night sky. If you look up at the evening sky, there’s a good chance you will not be able to see what your grandmother saw when she was a little girl. A new study says that nearly 80 percent of people in North America can’t see the Milky Way because of light pollution.
The most light-polluted country in the world is Singapore where researchers found that people living in the country never have the chance to experience true darkness. Other countries with large percentages of people living under such skies include Qatar, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates.
Too much light has a direct effect on human physiology and behavior. It can also destroy our sleep cycle. What’s more, it also affects wildlife. For example, baby turtles may not swim into the ocean because of street lights near shorelines.
In the U.S., some communities have been taking action on light pollution but in developing countries, people still want to make bigger, brighter light, like LED lights. They can save energy, but on the other hand, they will increase light pollution rapidly in fact.
There are still people that can remember when they used to be able to see the Milky Way, when they would walk outside at night, but those are becoming fewer and fewer.
Nighttime natural scenery needs protection just like daytime scenery. Don’t let the Light pollution rob us of the chance to experience the wonder of a natural night sky.
1. Why do we call galaxy the Milky Way?A.Because our galaxy looks like that. |
B.Because we look up at the evening sky. |
C.Because Grandma often tells us the story of it. |
D.Because many people in North America can't see it. |
A.Singapore. | B.Qatar. | C.Kuwait. | D.The United Arab Emirates. |
A.because the baby turtles are very lovely | B.because they want to enjoy street lights |
C.to show the bad effect of light pollution | D.to help the animals to swim into the ocean |
A.a travel guide | B.a science magazine | C.A news report | D.a history project |

In 2009, American filmmakers produced a documentary(纪录片) called Big River Man. And the book, The Man Who Swam the Amazon, has been sold in many countries. It tells us an inspirational story of perseverance and hard work, which has encouraged many people.

Dear Aunt Aggie,
I’m having a problem with my classmate, Rena, at school. The other day I wrote an e-mail to another classmate, Beth, in which I said some things about Rena that perhaps weren’t very nice. Unluckily, when Beth was writing back to me, she accidentally forwarded(无意间转发)the message to Rena! Now Rena is really angry with me and won’t talk to me, and Beth is unhappy as well. She’s said sorry to me a hundred times already, but the harm is done. I feel bad, because I never would have said those things to Rena’s face, but how can I get her to forgive(谅解)me? What should I do?
Joe
