3 . Times have changed, but falling asleep in class is still a common occurrence (常事) among students.
Why do students sometimes fall asleep in class? An obvious reason is lack of sleep. However, there are also causes for getting too little sleep.
Homework is a daily occurrence for most students, one that can take three to four hours per night. A student who wants to be able to take part in any activity besides homework must stay up late to fit everything in. Club activities, sports, computer-game playing, and TV viewing, for example, all make students have less time for both homework and sleep. Sometimes students lack sleep because of after-school jobs for their families.
Physical problems can also cause students to fall asleep in class. For example, insomnia (失眠), which may keep a student up at night, causing exhaustion (疲惫不堪) during class hours, is a serious problem. Medical evidence also supports the idea that each person has a body clock that helps to decide his or her sleep pattern. Unluckily, these body clocks don’t always work according to school timetables.
The effects of falling asleep in class can be quite serious. First of all, sleeping in class is not a good way to endear (使受喜爱) yourself to teachers. And other students may make jokes about those who sleep in class. However, the most harmful effect of sleeping in class is missing out on important points. In the long run, sleepers may end up failing classes.
Since students are probably not going to deal with the problem, falling asleep in class will probably remain an all-too-common occurrence. It will continue until more teens find a way to balance their personal and social lives with school and work on their own, while still finding enough time to sleep.

Which animals are smart? Your answer may be dogs, monkeys or elephants. Now there is one more animal that can be added to the list: sheep.
Scientists from Cambridge University said that sheep could be trained to identify human faces. Before testing, scientists let the sheep take a look at pictures of four famous people, including Barack Obama. Then the sheep went into a room with two computer screens. One screen showed a famous person. The sheep always walked toward the screen with the correct faces.
After discovering the sheep’s ability to recognize famous people, researchers gave them a new task. They wanted to see whether these farm animals could correctly identify the same people from different angles (角度). To their surprise, the sheep were still able to identify them, though they were a bit slower than before. Finally, the researchers wanted to know if the sheep could identify their trainers from a photo. As a result, the sheep could do this without any training.
The results show that the sheep’s face-recognition abilities are similar to those of monkeys and humans.
Face recognition is very difficult, but sheep have big brains. The researchers said it might be interesting in the future to find out whether sheep can identify different facial expressions made by humans.

Our school’s science festival just ended a few days ago. What interested me most was the car we made. It was made out of corrugated cardboard (硬纸板), but could still hold a person, as well as move.
We were excited about this idea, but we found it hard to make the car. It seemed impossible for a cardboard car to carry someone. Our physics teacher showed us a video. There was some corrugated cardboard shaped like a “V” or “W” in the video. It could hold more weight. This gave us the idea to make the car after getting the proper materials.
Because there was not much time left for us, we ha to finish it as quickly as possible. We talked about how the car should be made and how to test it. I was glad that we were able to work closely with each other. Everyone saw the work as an interesting way to relax. When the car was finally finished, we all wore a smile on our face and found that all our work had been worth it, even after spending whole afternoons working on it.
We joined the competition after we finished the car. Though we didn’t win any prizes, we found something more meaningful than success. We learned new things about physics and learned how to get along with each other.
