1 . The Great British Bake Off is a very popular TV program (节目) in the UK. It is a program to find good bakers (烘焙师). Every week, a group of people will make various cakes and bread. They have a time limit (限制) to make the food. At the end of every show, the best cook is the “Star Baker” and the worst cook has to leave the competition (竞赛). After 10 weeks, there is one winner.
The program started airing in 2010. But nobody expected (预料) it to be so popular. People really enjoy the show’s relaxing and happy atmosphere (气氛). The bakers are all very friendly to each other and even help each other. This is very different from other shows. Some people think the show is very typically (典型地) British. People also enjoy learning how to make different types of cakes, biscuits and bread.
More than 14 million people watched the show’s final (决赛) in October, 2016. The winner was a school teacher. She decided to change her job and write a book about making cakes. Baking is very popular in the UK now because lots of people have watched The Great British Bake Off. More than 19% of British people make cakes once a week. On December 3rd，2017，a program by CCTV called National Treasure（《国家宝藏》）was shown to people all around the country. It became popular with both the old and the young as soon as it came out.
The show took 27 pieces of cultural relics（文物）from nine museums across the country, such as the Palace Museum, Shanghai Museum, Shanxi History Museum and so on. The show expected to bring life to the national treasures. They invited 27 actors and another 27 common people to tell “the old and new life stories” of the relics. The actor acted in a short play about the history of each relic. The other person told his or her own story in relation to the relic.
More and more people are interested not only in the relics themselves, but also in enjoying the stories behind those relics. There are a lot of jokes online about the show. They also help the show a lot by bringing the museums and relics closer to people.
“Why did the show become so successful? By telling stories and inviting famous stars, it has turned the old culture into interesting stories. It’s a really creative program,” said Yin Hongru, a teacher from Tsinghua University.
“The social value（社会价值） of the show is more important than anything else,” said Yu Lei from the program. “We just want more people to go to the museums and take a look at the country’s most fantastic treasures.”
