My family is planning a journey to China in the summer. We want to visit Beijing first. Do you think we should book the plane tickets early? After Beijing, we want to visit Xi’an and Hangzhou, and maybe somewhere else. How can we travel from Beijing to Xi’an, by train or by plane? The cost is not so important, but the time is.
After Xi’an, we want to go to Hangzhou. Is it better to go to Shanghai first, or can we go from Xi’an to Hangzhou directly?
And after Hangzhou what is the best choice? Can we make a short trip to Suzhou?
Thanks for your help.

6 . One of My Hardest Beginnings
As an old saying goes, “it’s the first step that’s the hardest.” At the beginning of Grade Three, I began to learn programming (编程), It was the most unforgettable thing for me.
I love computers and everything about them, so it was natural for me to always want to learn programming. My father gave me his full support without hesitation (犹豫). He signed me up for an online programming course (课程). I couldn’t wait to begin the course once a week as compared (比较) with self-study, I would learn better this way.
The next Saturday, the course started. The class was difficult for me at first, because I was not good at logical thinking (逻辑思维). So, I couldn’t keep up with the rest of the class. After the class was over, I began to think it might be too difficult for me. I was even thinking of giving up. However, my father encouraged me and taught me how to make the code (代码) better. With his help, I learned a lot and found the joy (令人高兴的事) of studying programming. Since then, I have always been keen on coding and have never thought it difficult again. My love for programming has even increased over time.
Taking the first step is very important because, if you don’t, who knows whether you’ll succeed or not?

10 . If you have no special plans for your holidays, why not spend your time helping others? Nowadays, more and more young people in America volunteer (志愿) to spend their school holidays working for others. Here are some of their plans.
Jim, 16 years old
I’m going to help the Forest Centre build a new road in the mountains. I’ll spend the whole summer living in the tent and breathing the clean mountain air. I’m going to sleep under the stars. It will be a nice sport, and I’ll be able to do something good at the same time.
Susan, 15 years old
This summer, I’m going to work for Special House Program. They build good, low-cost houses and sell them to families that are not very rich. They’ll teach me what to do, so I’ll help people and also have a chance to learn how to build houses.
Michael, 17 years old
I’m going to teach children who have difficulty reading. I’ll work for a program called Reading for Life with my friend called Tom.
