2 . Physics can be amazing. The same force that makes airplanes fly can also cool down your bedroom on a hot summer night. This is called Bernoulli’s Principle (伯努利定律).

Recently, a science teacher’s video got a lot of attention. In the video, User Wolf-Science, from England, shows how to quickly fill a large bag with air using Bernoulli’s Principle.

Bernoulli’s Principle is named after Daniel Bernoulli, a Swiss physicist who introduced it in 1738. It says that when fluids (流体)liquids and gases move quickly, they create low-pressure zones(低压区域). Faster movement means lower pressure. The higher-pressure fluids will rush to fill the low-pressure zone.

In the video, the teacher blows into a large bag 10 times with his mouth. But he can’t fill the bag with air like this. Then, he puts the bag a few centimeters away from his mouth and blows hard one time. The moving air creates a low-pressure zone inside the bag. Air rushes in, filling the bag in just one second!

How does this make an airplane fly? The secret is the shape of the wings. The shape causes air moving over the top of the wing to go faster than the air moving below. This creates a low-pressure zone above the wing. Higher-pressure air from below rushes upward, lifting the plane of the ground.

You can put Bernoulli’s Principle to work at home. If your bedroom is full of hot air, you can cool it quickly. Point an electric fan toward the window, but don’t put it too close. When the fan runs, it will create a low-pressure zone. The hot air will go out the window. Firefighters use this same trick to quickly clear smoke out of a house.

1. A force can make airplanes fly and ________ on a hot summer night.
A.warm up your bedroomB.make a bag fly
C.open your windowD.cool down your bedroom
2. Where does Daniel Bernoulli come from?

A.Because there wasn’t high-pressure zone inside the bag.
B.Because there was too much air inside the bag.
C.Because there wasn’t a low-pressure zone inside the bag.
D.Because the bag was far from his mouth.
4. What’s the secret of making an airplane fly?
A.The light in the airplane.B.The shape of the wings.
C.The lower-pressure air from below.D.The moving of air.
5. How can you cool your bedroom’s hot air quickly?
A.You can put a fan close to the window.
B.You can put a fan out of the window.
C.You can create a high-pressure zone in your room.
D.You can create a low-pressure zone in your room.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了羞愧综合征的起因及应对办法。

3 . Everyone gets embarrassed (窘迫的) in their life. You’ve probably even been embarrassed many times today. It could have been the time when you spoke a simple word wrong in class, or tried to take a picture of someone secretly while the flash (闪光灯) was on. Though embarrassing moments like these don’t harm us a lot, they come back from time to time and make us feel upset. Even if the terrible memory may seem to be unnoticed after some time, we would always remember the feeling of strong embarrassment. In fact, these feelings may last for years. When they return, they are known as a cringe attack (羞愧综合征).

I myself get a quite uncomfortable feeling when I think back on a party my parents took me to when I was little. I ate a bowl of strawberries by myself. My parents shouted at me in front of everyone-for being impolite. From then on every time I put a strawberry into my mouth, my brain just throws that embarrassing memory back.

Why do these cringe attacks still appear in our daily lives even though the actual events happened weeks, months, or even years ago? Actually, our brains give special attention to the feelings that can be easily noticed. The stronger the feeling is, the longer the memory will be. If you have a highly embarrassing or highly emotional (情绪激动的) moment, no matter what it is, your brain will try to catch it.

So how can we deal with this? Well, we can start by trying to be more objective (客观的) about our past selves. Consider that you are not alone-everyone fails or makes silly mistakes. Instead of just trying to forget what we did, we should try to accept who we were at that moment and think about how we can change for the better.

1. Which experience might give you an embarrassing moment?
A.B.C.D.
2. Which of the following sentences could be added to the chart (图表)?

A.We forget the moments.B.We make mistakes again.
C.The memory goes away soon.D.The feelings come back to us.
3. The writer shares his childhood experience to ________.
A.express his love for strawberriesB.give an example of cringe attacks
C.explain that he was not really impoliteD.show everyone has embarrassing moments
4. What does the underlined word “they” in the second paragraph refer to ?
A.feelingsB.peopleC.mistakesD.years
5. What’s the best title of the passage?
A.Dealing with Cringe AttacksB.Cringe Attacks
C.Why Cringe Attacks AppearD.My Embarrassing Moments
