文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,讲述了人类活动如何置野生动物于危险之中,以及政府为保护野生动物所采取的措施。

1 . When you think of a terrible hunter, lions and sharks may first come to your mind. However, some scientists now find that humans are the most terrible hunters. Human activities even bring animals close to extinction. In the last 500 years, more than 300 types of animals have disappeared (消失). How do human activities make the wild animals in danger?

On one hand, hunting and fishing make the number of wild animals become smaller and smaller. Some people hunt animals just for food. It’s a real shame that people in some parts of the world often eat dolphin meat. What’s more, some hunt animals for fashion. Animal skin is used to make coats and bags. Still others hunt animals just for fun. They kill deer and enjoy the excitement of deer hunting.

On the other hand, building more farms or factories causes less and less space for wildlife. Many animals have no comfortable places to live, or enough food to eat. Humans also put animals in danger without going into their living areas. Because of serious pollution from ship traffic and other human activities, the number of wild animals drops greatly.

Luckily, now humans have known the importance of protecting wild animals and already taken action. Our government has made a 10-year fishing ban (禁渔令) on the Yangtze River. Fishermen once fished there for a living. They had to say goodbye to their old job because of the ban. Instead, some fishermen joined a team to clean up rubbish in the Yangtze River and report where to see finless porpoises (江豚). It’s glad to see so many people act to protect animals’ living areas. Keeping on protecting wildlife can make the earth a healthy and beautiful home.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了世界上年龄最大的陆地动物——塞舌尔巨龟乔纳森。

5 . ①In December 2022, the world’s oldest land animal celebrated his 190th birthday. The animal is a Seychelles giant tortoise called Jonathan.

②Experts believe he was born in 1832, but there are no official records of his birth. Some experts think Jonathan might actually be ten years older at that time. He is the world’s oldest land animal alive today—at least the oldest that experts (专家) know about.

③Jonathan was born in the Seychelles. He was taken to St. Helena in 1882 as a gift for the St. Helena governor. This means Jonathan has lived through countless wars, 40 US presidents and some of history’s most important events: the first photograph, the first telephone, and the first man on the moon.

④The questions is, what birthday gift do you get for a 190-year-old tortoise? Joe Hollins, Jonathan’s vet, said he had a good birthday. There was a three-day party for him. Chefs made him a special tortoise birthday cake that was full of his favorite vegetables. St. Helena also published a set of special postage stamps to celebrate his birthday. But Jonathan did not get to see any of the celebrations because he is blind. He also has no sense of smell. However, he has an excellent sense of hearing, so he could hear “Happy Birthday” being sung.

⑤The giant tortoise still has plenty of energy and enjoys the same activities he has done for almost two centuries. He sleeps, eats fruits and vegetables with the two tortoises who live with him. He likes to relax in the sun. On mild days, he will sunbathe—his long neck and legs stretched (伸展) fully out of his shell.

1. What can we know about Jonathan from Paragraph 2?
A.He is the world’s oldest animal alive today.
B.Some experts think Jonathan might be as old as 200.
C.The official records show that Jonathan was born in 1832.
D.Jonathan was born in the year when there were countless wars.
2. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.Birthday celebrations.B.Different gifts.
C.Daily activities.D.Excellent senses.
3. What is the best structure of the passage?
A.B.C.D.
4. Why does the writer use the symbol dash (破折号) “—” in the last sentence in Paragraph 5?
A.To list different sorts of baths.
B.To add further explanation about how.
C.To sum up the information above.
D.To change the topic between the paragraphs.
