The task of being accepted in a university begins early for some students. Long before they graduate    1    high school, these students take special courses to prepare for advanced study. They may also take one or more     2    (examine) that test how well prepared they are for the university. In the final year of high school, they complete applications    3    send them to the universities     4     interest them most. Some high school students may be required to have an interview with people from the university.     5     (neat) dressed and a little bit frightened, they are determined to show that they have     6     good attitude and the ability to succeed.

4 . I am a strong believer that if a child is raised with approval, he learns to love himself and will be successful in his own way. Several weeks ago, I was doing homework with my son in the third grade and he kept standing up from his chair to go over the math lines. I kept asking him to sit down, telling him that he would concentrate better. He sat but seconds later, as if he didn’t even notice he was doing it, he got up again. I was getting frustrated (挫败的), but then it hit me. I started noticing his answers were much quicker and accurate when he stood up. Could he be more absorbed while standing up?

This made me start questioning myself and what I had been raised to believe. I was raised to believe that a quiet, calm child was a sure way to success. This child would have the willpower to study hard, get good grades and become someone important in life.

Now those same people perhaps come to realize that their kids are born with their own sets of DNA and personality qualities, and all you can do is loving and accepting them. As parents, throughout their growing years and beyond that, we need to be our kids’ best cheerleaders,   guiding them and helping them find their way.

I have stopped asking my son to sit down and concentrate. Obviously, he is concentrating just in his own way and not mine. We need to learn to accept our kids’ ways of doing things. Some way may have worked for me but doesn’t mean we need to carry it through generations. There is nothing sweeter than being personal and unique. It makes us free and happy and that’s just the way I want my kids to live their own life.

Habits, whether good or bad, are gradually founded. When a person does a certain thing again, he     1    (drive) by an unseen force to do the same thing     2    (repeat); then   a   habit   is   formed.   Once       3         habit   is   formed,   it   is   difficult,   and   sometimes     4    (possible)   to   get   rid   of.   It   is   therefore   so   important   that   we   should   pay   great attention   to   the   formation   of   habits.   Children   often   form   bad   habits,   some   of       5     remain with them as long as they live.     6    (lazy), lying, stealing and so on are all easily formed bad habits. However, there are many     7     habits formed in early life that are of great help. Many successful men say much of their success has     8       to do with certain habits in early life like early rising and honesty. We should keep away     9       all these bad habits, and try     10           such habits as will be good for ourselves and others.

6 . Cheating can happen in a lot of different ways. When people cheat, it’s not fair to other people, like the kids who studied for the test or who were the true winners of a game.

Many people like the action of cheating. It makes difficult things seem easy, like getting all the right answers on the test. But it doesn’t solve the problem of not knowing the material and it won’t help on the next test — unless the person cheats again.

Some people lose respect for cheaters and think less of them. The cheaters themselves may feel bad because they know they are not really earning that good grade. And, if they get caught cheating, they will be in trouble at school, and maybe at home, too.

Some kids cheat because they’re busy or lazy and they want to get good grades without spending the time studying. Other kids might feel like they can’t pass the test without cheating. Even when there seems to be a “good reason” for cheating, cheating isn’t a good idea.

If you were sick or upset about something the night before and couldn’t study, it would be better to talk with the teacher about this. And if you don’t have enough time to study for a test because of swim practice, you need to talk with your parents about how to balance swimming and school.

A kid who thinks cheating is the only way to pass a test needs to talk with the teacher and his or her parents so they can find some solutions together. Talking about these problems and working them out will feel better than cheating.

9 . It’s important for you teenagers to know how to save money. You know that the money you save can be for rainy days and be used to pay through your college education. If you think it’s a difficult task and don’t know how to do it, please do as the followings.

My dad always tells me that if one doesn’t respect money, it will never respect you. Hence, it’s important that you keep a record of your daily expenses. Make it a habit to write down all that you have spent. And when you find out the total expenses at the end of the month, you will realize what you have spent more money in doing.    2    .

Open a savings account

Opening a savings account is a better way to save money. You can set a goal; say (for example), the money is for a new notebook or for college, and then save, until you have enough money to buy a notebook or until you go to college.    3    .

Do not carry much cash

Do you have the habit of not leaving a store without buying anything? The only way to stop that is carrying less money around with you. Go to the store with the minimum amount of money, which will not even help you buy a drink.    4    .

Save the changes

Save the changes that you get back. If you have gone to a shop to buy something and get back some changes, then do not spend them.    5    . And you’ll be surprised at the huge amount of money after days.

Follow these tips above, and thus you can save a lot of money. And surely, they’ll help you to be more responsible in your life.

10 . At the age of 5, most children in the USA start to go to school. Public education is free and most children go to schools near their homes. School in these early years is fun. The children learn to read and write. But they also play games and go on trips. There is no reason at such an early age for him to hit the books.

The situation changes as children become older. The subjects become more difficult. Students must learn about world history, algebra (代数), and the life sciences. Tests become more common. Pressure (压力) is growing to hit the books, study hard, and make progress. However, most serious students only really begin hitting the books for long hours when they reach high school.

High school students who hope to continue their education at a college or university must take a special national test called the S-A-T. The test has two parts. The first part tests the student’s ability with numbers and mathematical skills. The second part tests the student’s ability in the English language.

The S-A-T test is very important. A high school student who gets a high score on the two parts of the test has a good chance to enter a top American college. For this reason, many students hit the books for months to prepare for the S-A-T.
