The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival. It’s in May or June. It’s in memory (纪念) of the great poet (诗人), Qu Yuan. On that day, people eat rice dumplings and race dragon boats. There are many different kinds of rice dumplings. Some have meat, some have nuts and some have ham (火腿) in them. All of them are nice. A dragon boat is like a dragon. It’s red, white, yellow and black. It’s 20 to 40 meters (米) long. In the race, people in the boats play the drum, wave (挥) the colourful flags and row the boats. All the people are happy.

My name is May. I am an American girl. I am in Shanghai with my parents now. My father Mr. Li is an engineer in a shoe factory. He designs (设计) the beautiful shoes. He likes drawing pictures. Usually my father goes to work by car. But today he goes by bus with my mother. My mother Mrs. Li is an English teacher. She often goes to work on foot.
