2022 Beijing Winter Olympics is over, but a group of children in Beijing are still playing ice hockey—a special winter sport. They hold a curved (弯曲的) wooden stick and wear ice hockey coats, helmets (头盔) and skates. They glide (滑行) on the ice freely. They are not good at playing it, but they always try their best. They have a good time.

Ice hockey wasn’t strong or popular in Chinese sports history. In the past, ice hockey was popular only in northeast China, and in some big cities like Harbin, Changchun and Shenyang, there were ice hockey teams. But now Beijing, the host city of the 2022 Winter Olympics, has built up 15 ice hockey clubs and 116 youth ice hockey teams with about 2000 players. Some schools in Beijing are named winter sports special schools. Students in these schools begin to have ice hockey lessons in PE lessons.

“I am interested in all kinds of sports, and my favourite one is ice hockey. I like it because it’s a team sport with six players. Also, I love wearing cool ice hockey clothes. Playing ice hockey makes me feel like being a different person, so I like it very much.” says Zhang, a member of the school ice hockey team in Beijing.

It is believed that more people will start to learn and play ice hockey and can find happiness in it.
