四、阅读理解 添加题型下试题
I work as a waiter in a cafe. I spend the morning hours with coffee and see the friendly customers every day. But there are always those mornings when a few unwanted customers come in. They often ask for coffee without looking at me directly. Some customers are discourteous and they think that customers are always right.
Just like me, Austin Simms of Cups Coffee and Tea has had enough of this. To help some customers with their manners (礼貌), he put a sign outside showing their new way of setting prices.
His new sign shows the cost of a coffee is $5. If a customer walks up to the waiter and simply says, “Small coffee”, he or she will need to pay $5 for that small coffee. The price of “small coffee, please” goes down to $3. In other words, a nice word “please” with a request for a small coffee will cut the price by $2. The coffee only costs $1.75 if the customer says, “Hello. One small coffee, please.” So you can see that customers who show the best manners get the largest discounts (折扣).
This new way has made some customers rethink their manners. We can be sure that at least some customers have become polite even though they do it just to get discounted coffee. The more you do something, the more you will get used to it. This way can actually help some customers be polite.
