They met     1     many troubles that it made Wu Dajing China’s last hope of     2     a gold medal (奖牌) at these Games. The 23-year-old entered the final with a lot of pressure. However, he didn’t give his competitors     3     chance. He just kept his speed from the start.

“I am just so     4     of myself to have been able to hold on and bring out my best in the race. I only realized I was the winner at the finish line and I’m very happy that I have won the     5     gold medal for China in these Games,” said Wu.

Chinese team head coach Li Yan said excitedly, “Many thanks to our people     6     support us. In     7     to get ready for the races, we have turned     8     our social networks (网络), but still saw some reports from Chinese media (媒体). These reports are important     9     they give us encouraging messages and now there are more people caring about this sport. Chinese snowboarder Su Yiming is the youngest Chinese athlete and the first Chinese snowboarder to w    2     a gold medal（奖牌）at the Winter Games.

Born in Jilin Province, Su’s parents took him to go skiing when he was just a little boy. He spent all the day playing outside in snow. When he turned four, Su r    3     his first snowboard as a gift and started to learn snowboarding. Though being even shorter than the snowboard, Su m    4     to slide（滑行）down on his own quickly. Just two years later, Su made huge progress（进步）and ever s    5     then, Su has always carried a snowboard with him, no matter winter or summer, day or night. Gradually, Su started taking part in competition against adults and traveling all over the world to train in a better e    6    .

“I succeeded in r    7     the dream that I’ve had since I was a kid. I’ve always dreamed about winning this gold medal before 18 years old. I made it,” Su said in a recent i    8    . “I also want everyone to know that one can be the best at anything he likes. I’ve learned an i    9     lesson that hard work would never lie. Today I proved（证明）it.”

Su Yiming

At just 18, snowboarder Su Yiming made history by w    2     China’s first gold medal in men’s snowboarding. He took the gold medal in the men’s big air. Also, he won a silver medal in the slopestyle.

Inspired by his parents’ love of skiing, Su started snowboarding when he was just 4 years old. At that time, his parents couldn’t find a snowboard in China that would f    3     him. He showed talent in acting too. But he set his heart on snowboarding in 2015, after Beijing got the chance to host the 2022 Winter Games.

Gu Ailing

The 18-year-old world champion, set her goals high b    4     going into the Games. In the women’s big air freestyle event, she made four and a half rotations in the air and landed backward.

It was a d    5     jump that she bad never done before. Her mother told her to play it safe.

“But I didn’t listen to her. I did it not trying to b    6     anyone but to push myself to the next level,” said Gu.

Li Wenlong

On F    7     7, three days after his 21st birthday, speed skater Li Wenlong won a silver medal in the m    8     1000 m short track speed skating.

It was Li’s first Winter Olympics. He skated behind his teammates to help his teammates to win. With his help, teammate Ren Ziwei won the gold medal.

“This silver is just the b    9    ,” said Li. “I’m going to keep going and hope to c    10     the color of the medal to gold one day.”
