Walt Disney was born (出生) in 1901. He     1     up on a farm. At the age of 16, Disney began to study art. His greatest wish was to become a famous     2    . When he was a young man, he went to a newspaper office in a city     3     Kansas. He took some pictures and wanted to get a job there. However, he was so     4     that he couldn’t find a job in the city.

Disney didn’t give up. He kept on drawing pictures. One day a mouse came into his house and played on the floor. Disney stopped and watched it carefully. It came towards him, so he gave it a     5     of bread. Then the mouse came     6     to get more bread. Day after day the mouse came back and asked for bread. In this way they     7     good friends.

A few years later, Disney went to the west of the USA. He tried to get work as an artist, bu the wasn’t still successful. One day, he remembered the cute mouse. He picked up his pencil and began to draw. He     8     some different pictures of the mouse. He called it Mickey Mouse. People first saw Mickey Mouse in a film called Steamboat Willie. The film was a great success. After that, Disney became a great cartoon-maker and he soon drew many other cartoon     9     like Donald Duck Goofy (唐老鸭高飞). People of all ages     10     the lovely cartoon characters.

In 1966, Walt Disney left us forever. But his cartoons are still alive now. They are popular with people all over the world.

Have you heard of Xu Yuanchong? He is famous Chinese     1    . Born in Nanchang, Jiangxi Province in 1921, he studied with Qian Zhongshu, Wu Mi and other Chinese masters at the National Southwest Associated University. He went to University of Paris for     2     study after graduating from Tsinghua University.

Over the course of a translation career lasting more than seventy years, Xu has translated about 120 works,     3     The Book of Songs, The Songs of Chu and The Red and the Black, with a special focus on poetry. Xu is also the only person in China who has     4     translated poetry to from Chinese, English and French, in a very beautiful way. Thus, English and French-speaking readers are able to better understand Chinese literature through Xu’s translations. Meanwhile, Chinese readers can appreciate foreign works in the same way they would read novels and poems written in     5     mother tongue.

His works are often     6     as textbooks for foreign language learners.

Xu sticks to     7     the beauty of sense, sound and form. He will leave something out and add something to make the translated works more beautiful, During his translation career, he has been at the center of many heated debates(辩论) with others. But Xu said, “I am not afraid of having an     8     with others because the truth becomes clearer with each debate.”
