Most people believe that we should not listen to sad songs when we’re feeling sad.     1     But a study shows that listening to sad songs does help us feel better.

According to the study, if we listen to music that is in line with our present emotions (情感), we will feel a connection with it.     2     A friend, in hard times, will only advise us to become judgmental (判断的) about the situation. We don’t wish to listen to advice that would actually make us think too much when we are in tears, do we? We simply want someone to understand our situation, and sad songs do just that.

3     Similarly, listening to sad songs will help us feel better during times of sadness. Listening to sad songs while we’re in such a situation is similar to having a friend who will understand all our emotions.

The feelings we are unable to explain to our dear ones can easily be put to words by these songs. What’s more, when we’re listening to sad music quietly, we may feel tears coming out of our eyes.     4     In a word, sad songs help to treat a broken heart. Sad singers normally sing with peaceful rhythms and tones (节奏和音调), which help us relax.     5     Even though the emotions in these songs may be of the sad kind, the peace in them surely makes us feel relaxed.

A.Sad songs are like friends who bring out the best in us.
B.The reason is that sad songs will make us think of our pains.
C.we should thank them for lending special voices to comfort us.
D.If we’re happy and choose to listen to happy songs, we’ll feel happier.
E.This helps us come out of our situation better than taking advice from a friend.
F.Once we let all these emotions go with tears, we’ll feel better.
G.You may like these songs if you are the fan of the singers.

【推荐2】Dear Disney,
Last weekend, the four members of my family spent an enjoyable holiday at the Magic Kingdom—Disneyland. And one event made our visit seem truly magical.
We got to the front of the line at Space Mountain, only to find out that our little daughter Gloria couldn't take her ice-cream on the ride. We were so excited that we all forgot ice-cream was not allowed on the ride.
Gloria broke into tears and we all had no idea what to do. Then Murphy, one of the staff (员工) members, came over. She bent down and told Gloria that she would hold the ice-cream for her and give it to her when she finished the ride. Gloria said, “Promise?” Then she gave Murphy her ice-cream, and she completely enjoyed the ride.
Sure enough, as we walked out the exit, there was Gloria’s new friend with “her” ice-cream. Now you and I both know what happened, because we know that an ice-cream won’t last
twenty minutes on a summer afternoon in Florida. Murphy knew what time we would get off the ride; she went to the nearest shop and bought a brand-new ice-cream thirty seconds before we walked out the exit. Gloria said, “Thank you,” but I’m sure she thought it was the same ice-cream.
We know that someone tried hard to make our visit special. Thanks so much for going above and beyond!
Your fan,
Carmen Rivera

文章大意:本文主要介绍了一些处理情绪问题的方法。

【推荐3】Everyone experiences emotions. Feelings or emotions such as happiness, anger, fear, joy and anxiety are common to all of us. You can’t always choose your emotions, but you can choose your response. The following are some ways to deal with your feelings or emotions.

Remind yourselves that it is never okay to hurt others.

It is important to know what is acceptable and what is not for others.     1

Use your words to say how you feel and what you wish would happen.

Saying what you wish for helps you open a problem-solving conversation.     2     But you can work out a more peaceful solution together with whom you are angry.

    3

It is okay to ask for help when you don’t feel that you can solve the problem alone. Asking your parents or teachers for advice may help you find better ways.

    4

Sometimes you may still feel angry or upset even having worked through each of the above steps. In these situations, it is often better to walk away or to find another safe way to deal with those feelings. Several days later, you may not feel as strongly about what happened.

In fact, emotions make us human.     5     It is a matter of choice whether you let your emotions rule you or you make use of them intelligently to enrich your life and live it fully.
