Li Lan is from a small mountain village. She was born with heart disease (疾病). So she was often weak (虚弱的) and couldn’t do many     1    . One day, she was ill in hospital again. She stayed in the hospital for quite a long time, but she didn’t get much     2    . The doctor told her parents there was a good hospital in Beijing. The     3     there may be able to cure (治好) Li Lan. So her father called the hospital. The director (院长) of the hospital said that it     4     a lot of money. Li Lan’s parents were     5    , because they didn’t have a lot of money. When the director found Li Lan’s family was poor, he decided to help them. Li Lan’s parents didn’t need to pay so     6     money. Li Lan’s parents were very happy when they     7     the news. They took Li Lan to Beijing and got the treatment (治疗). Now Li Lan is very     8     and she can exercise a lot. She works hard at school.

She says she wants to be a doctor and help others when she     9     up. I hope she can realize (实现) her     10    .

Looking back at the past four years, I remember many things. I remember I was so shy that I never spoke to anyone else. I thought my world would always be grey. It was you, my classmates, who helped me. You didn’t     2     at me. Instead, you invited me to join in some interesting activities. With your help, I’ve made lots of friends. I’m really     3     to you for your kindness.

I also remember I studied hard but got poor grades. I was so disappointed and didn’t know what to do. It was you, my     4    , who helped me. You gave me useful advice     5     how to study efficiently(效率高地). I didn’t give up and got good results at last.

I remember I     6     got nervous before exams. It was you, my parents, who helped me. You were always there when I needed you. Instead or pushing me too     7    , you always encouraged me by saying, “Trust yourself! You’ll succeed as     8     as you try your best.”

It’s sad to say goodbye to those with     9     we have spent so much time. Although we have to go our separate ways now, we can come back to visit our school in a few years’ time. Let’s set out on our new journey and work harder to     10     our dreams.

Although my seven-day experience as a volunteer teacher in Guilin, Guangxi, has come to an end, I can still see those     1     but cute kids sometimes in my dreams.

When my classmates and I first arrived in Guilin, we rode in a crowded minibus along dangerous roads     2     to a house in Yuanbaoshan Forest Park. That night we worked together     3     the lessons for the students we were about to welcome.

On the first day, we went to a primary school. There the students were already sitting in their chairs waiting for us. Our group was teaching students     4     were in 3rd and 4th grade. They were very curious about everything. After simple icebreakers (寒暄), we all got along very well.

The following days were filled with lessons, including sports, ancient poetry and math. Among them, PE    5     by every one of them. One lesson that stood out was when I taught     6     how to play basketball.

As soon as I mentioned that we would play basketball that day, their     7     filled the room. I began by explaining the basic rules and     8     of the game, such as dribbling (控球), passing and shooting. Every student took part in the game happily, determined to improve themselves.

Since the experience, I     9     that being a teacher is about more than just giving lessons: It’s about teaching values, helping kids grow and encouraging them to be a     10     person than before. It’s a big responsibility, but one that I’m grateful for and will always remember.
