When I was young, my father told me that some acts of love may give someone happiness. So I always try my best to help others.

One afternoon, it was very hot. I was driving on the highway to Fuzhou when     1     car suddenly came into my lane (车道). My car was in the far right lane, so it ran into the roadside. But     2    , it didn’t cause an accident.

I was unhappy with that driver, but I thought that he just did not     3     attention to the lane change, and maybe he was just     4    .

The car ran away after cutting me off. Very soon it disappeared. After a while, I came around a curve (弯道) and found the     5     car. The driver was walking along the roadside. He looked     6    . The man’s car had a flat tire (瘪胎).     7     he had a spare tire (备胎), he had nothing to work with. I decided to help him. I     8     the tire for him and let him sit in my air-conditioned car while I did it. Fifteen     9     later, I finished the work. I was hot and tired, but I really felt good after an act of kindness to the man.

Helping others is the source (源泉) of happiness. That’s true. We should lend a     10     to others in trouble.

A strange thing happened     1     Robert yesterday. He was on a bus and wanted to get off. So he stood up and rang the bell. To make sure that the driver heard him, he rang it twice. However, the bus didn't stop, and the conductor came and     2     at him.

The conductor was so angry, and spoke so fast     3     Robert didn't understand a word. The bus stopped at the next bus stop and Robert got off. As he got off, he heard someone     4    , "I think he must be a foreigner."

When Robert reached the hotel, he told the owner of the hotel     5     had happened. "How many times did you ring the bell?" he asked.

"Twice", said Robert.

"Well, that's the signal for driver to go on," he explained. "Only the conductor can ring the bell twice. That's why he got     6    ."

Robert nodded, "I see."

Many foreigners move to China because of a strong interest in its culture. One man has turned his interest into love and this love makes     1     write many books about China. He is William, an American who has lived in China     2     33 years. His Chinese name is Pan Weilian. His Chinese friends     3     him “Lao Pan”.

In 1988, Lao Pan first came to China and     4     as a teacher at a university. But Lao Pan did not begin to understand China     5     he and his family took a 3­month drive around the country. These experiences in China give him ideas for his books. Since then he has     6     thirteen books about China.These books give the world a fuller picture of China and Lao Pan is     7     of what he is doing.

Lao Pan’s new book includes his forty­seven     8     to his family back in America. The letters show China’s development in different periods. Lao Pan often says he loves China     9     its people so much. He sees it as a life­long task to let more Westerners know     10     China is like. He will continue telling the nation’s stories to the world.

Everyone thinks it’s hard to change a person, but I am     1     to find I have changed myself. At first, I wasn’t an outgoing girl at all. I was never interested in     2    . My opinion of volunteering changed when I started university.

I started volunteering     3     I was 19 years old. As an English student, I volunteered in primary schools to teach     4     English. Later, I decided to volunteer at different art     5    . These chances helped me to greatly improve my communication skills.

The most important and life-changing volunteering experience for     6     is in the summer of 2023. I tried volunteering abroad. I     7     half a month in Romania teaching English to children from poor families. That experience helped me to improve my teaching skills. I also completely changed myself. I     8     people from all over the world and learned to work together with them. Since then, I have made many foreign friends. Volunteering is one of the     9     things you could ever do, both for yourself and for the people you are going to help along the way.    10     the community of volunteers, and you’ll get a big surprise!

I really love volunteering and I often volunteer on my town’s main street. Every weekend, other volunteers and I make some dishes by     1    , set up a table on the street and give the food to the homeless.

But we have realized that food is not     2    . Most of the homeless people are     3     because they have no friends or relatives. What these people also need is warmth and     4    . So we always chat with them. The long day makes us tired, but it also brings us happiness. The look of     5     on those people’s faces can make our weary（疲惫的）day into a meaningful day.

From my volunteering, I have learned that helping others not only makes others happy     6     also makes myself happy. And maybe one day, the people once you helped would help you back.

Alice was born with a strange disease（疾病）. She was     1     to many hospitals. None of the     2     knew the cause of the disease. They told her parents she would go blind and deaf.

Now Alice is fifteen years old. Her eyesight and hearing are so poor that she can’t see or hear     3    . But she is a bright and happy girl. She says to     4    , “Whatever     5    , I will keep on trying.” She hopes to enjoy her life. With her parents’ help, she is travelling as much as she can. She is also sharing the interesting things she experiences along the way.

In fact, she has     9     money for a foundation（基金会） fighting the disease since she was in Grade two. Until now, she has got over $ 150, 000!

Alice thinks helping others can make her     10     than having fun alone. She is doing her best to live her life without any regret.
