David is a book lover. As soon as he reads one book, he brings home another. Soon the house is     1     with books. His wife, Alice, is angry. “You     2     do something!”

David thinks hard and has     3     idea. “I can bring my books into the faraway hills and share     4     I have with the children.” He sets off across the countryside to faraway villages with his two donkeys. Early     5     a sunny morning, David and his donkeys stop at a river to     6     some water. Then, from deep in the shadows, a bandit (山贼) jumps out! “Please let us pass,” David says. “The children     7     waiting for me.” Luckily, the bandit let them pass.

The children run to meet David as soon as he arrives. David reads them a story first.     8     the story ends, the children hold their books close as they say good-bye and run home     9    . David and his donkeys head back home.

At home, instead of sleeping, David picks up his book and reads     10     than usual. And far away in the hills, candles and lanterns burn as the children read borrowed books deep into their night, too.

When theatre nurse Claire learned that packs of unused medical things were being thrown out, she decided to     1    . The medical things were clean and unused, but they can’t be recycled or     2     in Australian hospitals. It is the rules in Australia.

These medical things were going to landfill, and this led Claire and her partner to create the not-for-profit organization Save Our Supplies. The charity collects clean, unused medical supplies and then gives them out where they are needed. Even though they have passed their     3     for use, “They are still perfectly clean and can be used in a lot of other cases,” Claire said.

Volunteers collect, sort, pack and     4     the supplies to where they are needed. So far they have helped wildlife and homeless charities, universities, and have been sent to some African countries.
