One of the most common questions I am asked is whether, when, and how to follow up after a job interview. Following up in some way is necessary. Yes, you can get a job without it, but if you compete with other top candidates(候选人), following up can sometimes help you when the other candidate doesn’t. Here’s how to follow up well:
Send a thank-you note at once. E-mail is fine for this and has the advantage of arriving faster, but handwritten notes are still appreciated (欣赏). And if there are many interviews(面试), send a thank-you note each time.
Find out their timeline. Hopefully, you asked about their timeline in the interview itself, but if you didn’t, follow up within a week to strengthen your interest and politely ask what they expect their timeline for a decision to be.
Be patient. Most commonly, job seekers are too worried about the result. It doesn’t look worried to express your interest in the job or check in to ask about the timeline.
Don’t be nervous if you don’t hear from them at once. The hiring process often takes longer than a candidate would like, maybe the decision makers are out of town. If you’re past the time they indicated you would hear something, this isn’t necessarily cause for nervousness. Hiring often ends up taking longer than expected. Just politely follow up, explain you’re very interested but understand that hiring can take time, and ask if they have the latest timeline.

Robbie looked out of the window. It was still snowing heavily and there was ice on the window.
The family told Robbie to turn the heat on before they got home. And he did it. Then Robbie was told to do some cleaning work at once. It was an easy job for him. He kept on working until every room was clean and tidy. Then, he had to cook dinner for the family. The first thing Robbie did was to get a big pot in the kitchen. Then he pour some water in the pot and put it on the stove (炉子). He used one of his hands to cut up a chicken and added the pieces to the water to make a good soup. Then he got some tomatoes, cabbages and carrots to make a vegetable salad.
At ten past eight he laid the table. Then he put some bread, the chicken soup and the salad on it. What a sweet smell! The moment he turned on the lights, the whole family came home.
“The soup smells great,” said Helen. “You really did a good job.” Robbie is one robot that really saves the family a lot of work.

They went into the pet shop. “Look! That rabbit made a hole to hide in,” Sally said. “Look at those two cats,” said Hunter. Their cage was on the floor. The small and brown cats were asleep on each other.
Sally leaned over the cage. She wanted a better look. The gold necklace she had around her neck came loose. It fell into the cage. It woke up the cats. “Oh no!” Sally cried. “I lost my necklace! It is in the cage!” Then the shopkeeper came. He opened the cage, and took out the necklace. At last, they bought two cats and took them home.

When I joined a team, they told me it would take at least three years to become a good paddler. Correct movement and teamwork are the keys to a team's success.
Because of the bad weather, the races were put off until National Day. Finally, the big day came. About 40 teams took part in it. I didn’t expect our team to win. This was the first competition for most of us. And only the top two teams in each heat(预赛)would go to the next competition. It was a challenge for us. The big waves(波浪)almost turned us over. Paddling against the waves was hard, but we crossed the finishing line and, surprisingly, we went to the following day’s semifinals(半决赛).
We faced strong competitors in the semifinals. However, in dragon boat racing, no one ever stops paddling, no matter what happens! So I kept paddling, try my best to keep pace(节奏)with the team. We fell behind the other boats, but we didn’t lose hope. We continued to the last minute!
Although we didn’t go any further, we never imagine we could make it into the top six. What a surprising feeling! Once we’ve tried our best, we will never regret.
