I scream (尖叫), you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

    1     a hot sunny day, who would say no to a sweet, ice-cold ice cream? It would be an     2     (excite) treat to find out who invented ice cream. The first kind of ice cream     3     (make) in China almost three thousand years ago. It was a mixture of snow, milk and rice. From China, the recipe (食谱) was spread to Europe. The emperor Nero of Rome enjoyed a frozen dessert that was a mixture of snow, honey and fruits.

In Asia, the Mughal Emperors required     4     (they) horsemen to bring snow from the mountains to Delhi (Delhi can get very hot). The ice was mixed with flavors (风味) and was then used in fruit sorbets (沙冰).

Because the Italian Catherine de Medici married Henry II of     5     (French), she brought flavored sorbet recipes to France. Her cook created different flavour fruit ice for each day of the wedding celebrations.

Ice cream arrived in England from France. King Charles II, built an ice house in the center of London and was the     6     (one) British king who is known to have eaten ice cream. Until the 1800s, ice cream remained a delicious dessert enjoyed only by the rich.

Ice cream came to America from Europe. In 1832, White House cook Augustus Jackson found out how     7     (put) ice cream in cans to send to ice-cream stores. He was named the“Father of Ice Cream”.

Technological development made ice cream production possible. In 1843, the ice cream machine was spread to England and America. This was made from a wooden box filled     8     ice and salt.

Today there are so many different flavors of ice cream. You can name flavor and there will be an ice cream of it. The most popular flavors are chocolate     9     strawberry.

Interesting fact

The first ‘refrigerators’ were created by mixing salt and ice. Mixing salt with ice reduces the freezing point. You can achieve temperatures     10     (low) than -14℃.
