Animals are people’s friends. But many wild animals are facing the danger of     1     out, because their living situation（情况）    2     worse and worse. Do you know why? The first reason is that the environment has changed greatly. For example, their living area has become smaller and smaller because we     3     away more and more land and forest. They have no enough room     4     in except（除……外）the zoo. And many of the wild animals now can’t find enough food     5    . At the same time, men     6     animals just for getting their fur, teeth and meat.

People should realize how serious the situation is and we should do something     7     the animals. We should     8     up some nature reserves so that animals can live freely. And people shouldn’t be allowed to kill the endangered (处于危险中的) animals. We should also do something     9     our world cleaner. Fresh air, clean water and green grass     10     all important for animals.

Many people like pandas very much. They are very     1    . Most of them live in Sichuan, China. They have white hair, but their shoulders (肩膀), legs, ears (耳朵) and eyes (眼睛) are black. Pandas are usually heavy, but they can     2     trees like some animals.

Pandas’     3     food is bamboo leaves (竹叶).   

But now, there     4     not many pandas in the world today. Because some people cut down too many     5    , so pandas can not find enough (足够的) food to eat.

The Red List of the International Union for Conservation of Nature（IUCN, 国际自然保护联盟）records the world’s species（物种）and points out which ones are going to extinct (灭绝). Since 1990s, the giant panda has been     1    . Now its status (危险等级) has been lowered to vulnerable (脆弱的). Researchers believe there are now     2     2000 giant pandas left in the wilds of China. The number of pandas was l, 600 in 2003 and 1, 200 in the 1980s.

The number of pandas is becoming larger because China     3     to save the cute animals. Since 1958, China has built     4     for pandas. There they are safe and enjoy enough fresh bamboo. China has also welcomed other foreign organizations that wish to study pandas. The first such visit was in 1979 by the World Wildlife Fund（WWF, 世界自然基金会）. Its world-famous logo made the animal     5     all over the world.

“The recovery of the panda shows that when science, politics and local communities come together, we can save wildlife.” WWF Director General Marco Lambertini told CNN.
