We often have arguments in all relationships. But that is not always a bad thing. Sometimes we can choose to be in a win-win situation. What is important is how we manage the argument.     1

Treat each other with respect.

If your friend calls your names or makes fun of you, tell him or her to stop.     2    , walk away and tell him or her you do not want to talk any more. Respect has to be won and if you want people to respect you, do the same to them.

Listen to other people patiently.

When everyone is talking, who does the listening? Listen to understand, not to reply.     3     Listening in silence is sometimes stronger than arguing in vain (徒劳无益).

    4

If giving in to others can lead to a nice result, there is no need to argue just to win someone else. After all, solving an argument doesn't have to be a tug-of-war (拔河).

In a word, we each should do our own part to deal with arguments.     5

A.If your friend continues
B.Give in when it is necessary.
C.If you don’t want to talk about your friend
D.The following suggestions might help you.
E.Do not be too quick to judge what you hear.
F.The more you talk, the better the result will be.
G.In this way, we can achieve a win-win situation.

Many students are taking part in after-school tutoring(辅导). I’m afraid I can’t keep up with my studies if I don’t do the same. Should I try this myself?

It’s good that you want to improve your schoolwork. Every student should have this goal. You should do everything you can to raise your grades.

However, not every student studies the same way. Some people do prefer to have a one-on-one tutor. Others prefer to learn in groups. Some simply like to study on their own. The key is to find the way that works best for you.

I used to be pretty bad at math. I envied my classmates who went to tutoring and could easily solve problems. I joined them and had tutoring three times a week. My tutor gave me homework, just like our teachers in school. It made me feel really tired.

So after about two months, I decided to give up. I listened more carefully in class and started to work out problems on my own. By doing this many times, I learned that many problems had the same rules behind them. And now, personally, I’d rather just study on my own.

You should find the way that works best for you. Don’t just do what others do. Find your weakness and try to deal with it, whether you are tutored or self-taught.

文章大意:本文科普了“自我认知”相关的知识。

【推荐2】If you had to describe yourself to someone else, what would you say? It can be difficult to see yourself from the outside, but realizing who you are can help you understand feelings and make friendships closer.

Self-awareness (自我认知) means knowing your thoughts, feelings and behavior, and understanding how you fit into the world. If you are self-aware, you may know that you love playing basketball because you are good at it, and music makes you happy, or that you prefer watching TV on your own because it helps you relax.

Knowing what you like and dislike, what you are good at and what you find difficult allows you to make better decisions about friendships, schoolwork and even which films to watch. You learn to trust your own feelings more, which builds confidence. The World Health Organization says self-awareness is one of the ten important life skills that help young people lead happier and healthier lives. Being self-aware doesn’t mean only thinking of yourself. By understanding your own feelings, you have more understanding for other people, too.

Asking yourself questions is a great way to develop a better understanding of yourself and your actions. When you ask yourself questions, you can start to look at the bigger picture, why you feel a certain way, or why you reacted to something the way you did, etc. You can ask the questions like this: “Why do I avoid this certain thing?”, “What am I trying to achieve?”, “How am I feeling right now, and how is that influencing me?”, “How do others consider me and feel about my actions?”. In doing this, you can start to find out things that perhaps you do not even think twice about in day-to-day life, and this can be a great way to start developing your self-awareness.

Learning to be more self-aware is a skill, which means you learn it as you grow. So try out new things, like playing a new sport or listening to different music. Don’t be afraid to dislike something—discovering what you find difficult and challenging is a key part of learning more about yourself.

【推荐3】In cities all over the world, it is common to see beggars (流浪汉) on the street. Some of them might ask you for money. Some of them might ask for food .Some of them might be disabled (残疾的) or seriously ill. But in nearly every case, they come from a situation (境况) where they have to ask strangers (陌生人) for some kind of help.

Is there anything you can do for them? Of course there is. You can give them some money, or perhaps buy a cheap meal for them. You can listen to their stories—yes, even just listening can help. Many beggars like to tell stories about themselves.

Some people will tell you to stay away from them. They might think that these beggars are trying to cheat (欺骗) people—they might be as healthy as you are and they might have expensive cars or large houses. Some even say that they work for some kind of criminal organization (犯罪集团)—they don’t keep the money for themselves, but hand it in to the organization (组织). And unluckily, these people are sometimes right.

However, I think it’s better to think more optimistically (乐观地). Will it really hurt to help them in some small way? You never know what they might have been through. In life, we mainly listen to our heads when we’re trying to find out what we should do. But sometimes, it is just as important to listen to our hearts as well.
