A volunteer picking up litter

Alicia Waters Galan is litter-picking all the way from her home in Spain to Paris. She is heading to Change NOW 2024, an event where people will come together to f    1     solutions for climate change. It starts on 24 April. Alicia is raising money for Kids Against Plastic (an environmental charity) and she’s calling her adventure Pick 2 Paris.

Alicia began to be a volunteer after v    2     an aquarium (水族馆). There she learned that some fish were d    3     because of eating plastic in the rivers and oceans.

Now I know what you’re thinking, but I’m no hero. (Laughter) I carried the shoes d    4    . There I met the other volunteer with the precious dog. We took our treasures (珍宝) outside to the homeowner. Not surprisingly, his treasure r    5     much more attention than mine.

A few weeks later, the company got a letter from the homeowner thanking us for saving her home. In the letter she described the act of k    6     —someone had even gotten her a pair of shoes.

Not every day is going to offer us a chance to save somebody’s life, but every day offers us a chance to a    7     one. So get in the game. Save the shoes.
