There are plenty of things we can do to help people around us. For example, if we find our friends     1     trouble, we can give them some     2    ; if our neighbor is busy working in the garden, let’s give him a hand; if we see an old man on a crowded bus, we should ask him     3     our seat. Actually, when we help others, we’re helping     4    . Sometimes we can even make friends and get     5     experiences by helping others. It makes us feel happy because we know we are doing something right.

I have been very busy since I became a volunteer for the Riding for the Disabled Association.

Every Saturday, I help to get the horses     1     for the disabled(残疾) riders. Many more disabled people want to ride     2     than you’d imagine. It’s a disadvantage that I don’t know how to ride—I’d love to get on long rides with the riders — but I’ll learn soon     3    . Right now, I’m just happy to be able to lead the horses around for the disabled riders.

I’m     4     helping to organize a sale, which will be     5     next month. It’s a lot more work than helping the disabled. I need to collect second-hand things to sell at the sale. There are     6     things available(获得的) than I thought, but I’m sure we’ll have enough     7     next month.

I hope the sale raises more money than last month’s work. It was rainy, so too few people took part in the event. Last week, we held an auction(拍卖). The auction took much less     8     to organize than the work.     9    , for some reason, people     10     too little money for the things, so we didn’t raise enough money.

We want     1     the pandas. The panda is one of China’s symbols. It is     2     the symbol of World Wildlife Fund.                         

This is Beibei. She is five     3     old. Beibei is black and white with a big head. She is     4     China. She is cute and kind of     5    . She lives in the Beijing Zoo. But pandas are in great     6    . People often cut     7     the bamboos (竹子). So pandas are losing their     8    . Some people also kill pandas for     9     fur (皮毛). Today there are only about 1,000 pandas.

We must protect (保护) the bamboo and not     10     things made of animals’ fur. Remember that October 4th is World Animal Day.

Forests are the lungs (肺) of the earth. Without     1    , it cannot breathe. In many     2    , such as New Zealand, Canada, and Brazil, forests were cut down to build houses. Cutting down trees is     3     to human beings, animals and plants. Many young volunteers around the world are working in their holidays to plant new trees. These young men and women face many difficulties when they plant new trees. The     4     problem is the weather. It may be very hot and dry or may be very cold and wet. Though it is difficult, they never give up. They believe that the world will become much     5     in 50 years with their efforts.
