Mark Hill is a traffic police officer in Watford, near London. He works on some of the busiest motorways in Britain? the Mi and the M25.

“There are traffic police on duty twenty-four hours a day. There are three shifts(轮班), and each shift is eight hours. On average(按平均数计算)we have to deal with three to four accidents each shift”.

Sally opened her eyes. She saw her mum standing beside（在……旁边）her bed. “Today is your ninth birthday and we are going to have a party for you,” Mum said. Sally got out of bed quickly. She washed and put on a new dress.

Before long, Sally’s friends arrived. They watched a movie on TV. After that, they had lunch. The chicken and sandwiches were delicious. When lunch was over, it was time for games. Everyone was so engrossed（全神贯注的）that they did not see Sally’s mum bring out the birthday cake. They even asked to play the game once again before Sally cut her cake.

Sally finally cut her birthday cake after the games were over. A little later, she opened her presents. Her mum gave her a bike and her dad gave her a pair of swimming goggles（游泳镜）. She was really happy. “We can go to the beach more often now, can’t we?” she asked her dad happily.
