文章大意:本文主要讲述了一只红母鸡和孩子们通过自己的一系列的劳动做出了美味的面包的故事。

【推荐1】One day, a red hen found some wheat seeds (小麦种子) on the ground. She thought to herself, “I will plant these seeds and make bread for my little chickens.”

She asked her neighbors, the cow, the sheep and the horse, if they wanted to help her with the planting. They all said no because they were too busy with their own work.

The red hen didn’t give up. She planted the seeds, watered them every day. Although the little chickens were too young to do hard work, they still didn’t want their mother to be so tired, so they helped the mother hen and took care of the seeds together until they grew into tall wheat plants.

When it was time to harvest (收割) the wheat, she asked her neighbors again if they wanted to help her. But once again, they all refused.

The red hen and her children worked hard and harvested the wheat by themselves. Then they took the wheat to the mill (磨坊) to grind it into flour (面粉).

She asked her neighbors one more time if they wanted to help her bake (烘焙) the bread. But just like before, they were too busy with their own tasks and said no.

The hen’s family baked the bread by themselves, and it turned out delicious. When her little chickens saw the freshly baked bread, they clucked (咯咯叫) with joy.

The hen smiled and said, “Who will eat this bread? I will! With my cute children. Because We did all the work from start to finish.”

And so, they shared the bread and enjoyed a well-deserved meal.

There is a Chinese idiom (习语) “tao li man tian xia”, referring to (指的是) a teacher who has taught so many students that they spread across the country like peach and plum (李子) trees.

The idiom comes from Zizhi, an official (大臣) that lived in the state of Wei (魏国) during the Spring and Autumn Period (BC770-BC476). Zizhi was a knowledgeable person. He was not liked by the king at the time, so he had to leave his state. To make a living, he opened a private school and started to teach students.

As a teacher, he chose students no matter they were rich or poor. He often pointed at a peach and a plum tree in his yard when asking his students to work hard. “You should become a useful person and do work to benefit society, just like when the peach and plum trees bloom (开花) and bear fruit.” he said.

Keeping these words in their minds, many of Zizhi’s students went on to different places around the country, achieving great things. They would plant peach and plum trees to show their respect (尊重) for their teacher.

Jim thought it was unfair, so he asked his boss why he didn’t show thanks to the hard-working people like him in the company. The boss knew that Jim worked hard, and in order to show the difference between him and Stew, he said, “Go and find anyone selling apples in the market (市场).

When Jim returned, the boss asked, “How much per kilogram?” So Jim went back to the market and then returned to say the price—$12 per kg.

Then the boss asked Stew the same thing. Stew went to the market, and when he returned he said, “At the moment there is one person selling apples, $12 per kg, $100 for 10kg.
