My sister Linda asks me to read a book about lizards. “Ugh, let’s read about tigers. I don’t like lizards.” I answer. I read to Linda, but I think about school, too. Tomorrow is the first day of school. Will I like my teacher? Will I met new friends? I am excited and I hope to meet some new friends.
Our new classroom is tidy. I like it. But then I see a lizard in the fish tank. Ugh! Our teacher comes in and gives the class a big smile. “Good morning, girls and boys!” he says, “I’m your new teacher, Mr. Roy.” Then he looks around and asks, “Where is the chalk (粉笔)?” I hand him some chalk. Mr. Roy smiles, “Thanks, David.”
“Okay! Let’s begin!” He looks around and says, “Now, where are my glasses?” I point to his head. “What are you doing up there?” he asks his glasses. Everyone laughs (大笑). Mr. Roy gives me a wink (眨眼). I like this teacher.
After the math class, Mr. Roy says, “It’s time to meet a friend of mine.” He picks up the lizard. “Oh, no!” I say to myself. I am really afraid of lizards. Then Mr. Roy says, “His name is Slim. He’s thin like me. I hold him carefully so I won’t hurt (伤害) him.”
Just then, Slim runs out of Mr. Roy’s hand. He runs fast under desks and over feet. Then he runs to me! “Catch (抓住) him, David!” says Mr. Roy. I try to do that. Everyone is watching me.
I move very slowly. I get closer and closer. I look into Slim’s eyes, and then I GRAB HIM! I can feel that he’s afraid in my hands. “Don’t worry, Slim,” I say quietly, “We won’t hurt you.” I put Slim back in the tank. He winks at me! Mr. Roy says, “I think he likes you, David.” I think I like him, too.
Mom is waiting for me after school. “Wow!” I say, “I have a great new teacher. He’s my friend. And guess what? I have another friend, too. His name is Slim. He’s a lizard!”
