Some people get very ill from COVID-19 while others do not. The reason may be linked(联系)to a person’s blood type(血型). There are four main blood types: A, B, AB and O.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine looked at the blood types of about 2, 000 people in Europe with serious COVID-19, and compares(对比)them to several thousand other people who were healthy or who had only mild symptoms.
The study found that people with Type A blood usually had more serious COVID-19 symptom. And people with Type O blood did not usually have big health problems. Sometimes, people with blood type O have no COVID-19 symptoms at all.
This is not the first time when a blood type affects a disease(疾病). During the SARS outbreak, scientists found that many people with SARS had blood type A. Also, the blood type can increase the risk of other illness like ulcers and urinary infection(尿路感染).
