Jack was traveling around the country in his car. One evening while he was driving along a road and looking for a small hotel, he saw an old man and said to him, “I want to go to the Star Hotel. Do you know it?”

“Yes,” the old man answered, “I’ll show you the way.” He got into Jack’s car, and they drove for about twenty miles. When they came to a small house, the old man said, “Stop here.”

Jack stopped and looked at the house. “But this isn’t a hotel,” he said to the old man.

“No,” the old man answered, “This is my house. And now I’ll show you the way to Star Hotel. Turn around and go back twelve miles. Then you’ll see the Star Hotel on the left. ”

Laura comes from Canada. She’s going to fly to London to see her grandparents, and it is about ten hours away. Laura walks around the airport(机场) and looks at the shops. She doesn’t buy anything but has a nice time.

After an hour she wants to go to the toilet. She looks for it, but she doesn’t find it. “Where is the toilet?” she says. She starts asking other people.

Laura says to a man, “Excuse me, sir, could you please tell me where the toilet is?”

The man says, “You mean the restroom, right?” Laura says, “No. I mean the toilet.”

“Well, the restroom is over there,” he says and walks away.

Laura doesn’t understand. She asks a woman, “Excuse me, madam, could you please tell me where the toilet is?”

“The restroom is over there,” the lady answers and walks away.

Laura is confused.“What’s wrong with them? I need to use the toilet and they tell me to rest! I don’t need a restroom. I need the toilet!”

After a while Laura gives up(放弃). She feels tired. She thinks she needs to rest.

She walks to the restroom. She is surprised. She now knows the restroom is the name for a public toilet!
