The Hailstorm in Gopalganj 1986
Imagine large balls of ice falling down from the sky! That is exactly what happened in 1986 in Gopalganj. Bangladesh. The heaviest hailstone(雹块) ever recorded fell during this intense(强烈的) storm. It weighed 1. 02 kg and was the size of a grapefruit. Although it didn’t last long, the Gopalganj storm was very dangerous. It killed ninety-two people and badly damaged crops and houses. This was because hailstones of that size fell very fast. They reached the speed of 200 kilometers per hour. Which made them very deadly(致命的). Thunderclouds carry raindrops high into the atmosphere(大气层). The raindrops freeze and merge(合并) into lumps(块状) of ice, becoming bigger and bigger. When they are too heavy, they fall to the ground. Hail doesn’t have to be the size of a grapefruit to be dangerous. Smaller hail can also fall fast and cause damage.
How can we be prepared for hailstorms?
·Check the forecast for warnings of the thunder storms, which often bring hail.
·When a storm is coming, stay inside and keep away from windows.
·If you are outdoors with no shelter, you can protect yourself by crouching (蹲伏) down, facing away from the wind and protecting your head with your hands.

Son of Snow Mountains
Mount Qomolangma (珠穆朗玛峰) is the world’s highest peak (山峰). It is 8,848.86 metres tall. For the world’s climbers, Mount Qomolangma is a difficult test. But Sherpas (夏尔巴人) are good at climbing mountains.

They protect the mountains. Some people throw trash on the mountains. Twenty Sherpas made a team to pick up the trash. They keep the mountains clean and tidy.
