3 . What do you want for Christmas? Christmas is a Christian (基督教的) festival for the birth of Jesus Christ. It’s also famous for Santa Claus and presents.
At Christmas time, families get together and have a big dinner. They sing Christmas carols (颂歌) and put up Christmas trees. It’s also normal to give your friends and family presents.
In western countries, young children believe that Santa Claus brings presents. He flies a sled (雪橇) pulled by magical reindeer (驯鹿), and drops presents down the chimney (烟囱). Families leave carrots outside their houses for the reindeer, and a glass of sherry (雪利酒) for Santa himself (along with some biscuits—he is a little fat).
The biggest Christmas present of all time is actually the Statue of Liberty (自由女神像). France gave it to the US for Christmas in 1886. It is still unclear how Santa Claus could fit this inside his bag.

Dear Mum and Dad,
How’s everything going in Australia? I’m now living with the Zhangs. Here are some photos of the family and their house for you.
First, you’ll find photos of their home. It is a very typical (典型的) Chinese house. Chinese people like staying in their houses. You can also see some photos of Mr. Zhang and Mrs. Zhang, Zhang Li and Zhang Lin. They are now my good friends.
The New Year’s Day is coming. They call it the Spring Festival. And this year is the year of the tiger. Before New Year’s Day, people are busy shopping and cleaning their houses. On New Year’s Eve, the night before New Year’s Day, there is a big family dinner. After dinner, all the families stay up late (守岁) to welcome the New Year. On the first day of the New Year, people put on their new clothes and go to visit (拜访) their friends. They say “Happy New Year” and some other greetings to each other. People usually have a good time during the festival. I really love this festival so much!
Miss you so much! I’ll write to you again soon.
Yours,
Alice
